Misleading Statements on Accreditation[edit]

This is what BBB Accreditation is: https://www.bbb.org/get-accredited/. Here is the link to CFI's page: https://help.corporatefinanceinstitute.com/article/146-corporate-finance-institute It's pretty clear that BBB accreditation has nothing to do with the validity of their certifications. The statements on CFI's website are misleading.

The link to Global Corporate Finance Society (https://corporatefinance.org/) also redirects to CFI's own page. Not independent now is it?

first of all, you need to remember to sign off, see Wikipedia:Signatures. Secondly, the link you provided on BBB does NOT say CFI in any way misrepresents anything - that's your own opinion. Wikipedia is based on facts. Secondly, you misunderstand what that sentence means. CFI website indicates: "CFI is accredited by the Better Business Bureau® (BBB)", CFI stands for Corporate Finance Institute, it only said that the company (CFI) itself is accredited by BBB, which is true. At no point did CFI says that their accreditations (namely FMVA, CBCA...etc), was accredited by BBB. That wouldn't make sense because BBB is not a finance organization so its accreditation won't mean anything. I looked through your account history and this account seems to be solely created to attack CFI. This type of behavior is not allowed on Wikipedia and this is your official warning.Kazuha1029 (talk) 01:15, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Your threats are unwarranted and inappropriate. The CFI site is clearly misleading and your comments seem biased. I am trying to be objective. Are you employed by CFI? Seniorzk (talk) 01:27, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

look at my edit history, I've been editing Wikipedia since before you are employed by CFI's competitor. I make all sorts of edits from finance and accounting to classical music. That being said, this does not change the fact you misrepresented what the statement meant. CFI says they are accredited by BBB - there's nothing wrong in this statement. YOU are the one who made up a false statement saying "CFI says their courses are accredited by BBB".Kazuha1029 (talk) 01:40, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It looks to me you didn't read, I'm going to repeat once again here, CFI website indicates: "CFI is accredited by the Better Business Bureau® (BBB)", CFI stands for Corporate Finance Institute, it only said that the company (CFI) itself is accredited by BBB, which is true. At no point did CFI says that their accreditations (namely FMVA, CBCA...etc), was accredited by BBB. Your opinion "CFI site is clearly misleading", is irrelevant. The article is written in a neutral tone, and that's what Wikipedia is.Kazuha1029 (talk) 01:51, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Finally, this entire article does not even mention CFI was accredited by BBB. So this entire discussion is not even relevant. If you truly believe CFI's site is misrepresented, you need to provide a reliable source, such as news article from Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal..., to prove that CFI's site is misleading to the point that many people (not just you who just misread) consider it misleading.Kazuha1029 (talk) 01:57, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You make no effort to discuss or see others’ point of view. Seniorzk (talk) 01:56, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I made all effort to explain. You are the one who ignored my argument that you simply misread the statement regarding BBB. Admins can clearly tell you're most likely someone who is employed by CFI's competitor. But I'll let them be the judge of that. Kazuha1029 (talk) 01:59, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I assure you that I am not. I am in fact a student that has been told by employers that these certifications are not valid. Seniorzk (talk) 02:01, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I’ll do more research to substantiate this in the mean time Seniorzk (talk) 02:01, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You persistence in trying to vandalize this article says otherwise. You still did not reply to my argument that you misread the article. CFI says they are BBB accredited, they never said BBB accredited their courses. If you do not believe CFI's courses are valid, good. Don't ever take their courses because I don't either. We have the same personal opinion, but Wikipedia must be factual. Unless you find reliable source that says CFI is misrepresenting, we can't post that on Wikipedia. That includes your employers' view as well. Does that make sense? Kazuha1029 (talk) 02:05, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Is this Tim Vipond by chance? Seniorzk (talk) 02:05, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

What? Now you're clearly sounding like someone employed by CFI's competitor. Like I said, look at my edit history, does that look like Tim Vipond? Seriously, stop doing what you're doing. We see too many of this on Wikipedia. I'll get admin attention. - Kazuha1029 (talk) 02:06, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I only ask because you created an article on him Seniorzk (talk) 02:12, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I did not. You need to start being careful with what you say, especially false allegations. I'm not the one who vandalized this article. I am being civil here but you're being extremely unreasonable and I will not tolerate this. Again, you still did not respond that you misread the whole BBB statement. Please admit that you made a mistake and apologize. - Kazuha1029 (talk) 02:15, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/certifications/financial-modeling-valuation-analyst-fmva-program/

This is what I saw on their page: Are CFI courses accredited? CFI is accredited by the Better Business Bureau® (BBB) to maintain training standards, and by the CPA Institutions in Canada, and the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) in the US for CPE credits.Seniorzk (talk) 02:12, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

You don’t find that a bit misleading? Seniorzk (talk) 02:35, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

See, now you're communicating. Thank you for that. Here are my thoughts:
  1. This article never mentioned BBB. So there's really no point of arguing because this would not mislead Wikipedia readers.
  2. "CFI is accredited by BBB", not misleading imo. CFI stands for Corporate Finance Institute (CFI), and that's what BBB is for. They certify the organization, not their products. CFI's website never said BBB accredits FMVA/CBCA.
  3. "by the CPA institutions in Canada and NASBA", I went to the link: https://corporatefinanceinstitute.com/about-cfi/cpe-credits-online/ this is real. I have CPA friends who took these courses in USA who were able to claim CPE credits.
  4. It's not up to us to say whether this is misleading or not. Unless you can find reliable source, like I said, such as Bloomberg, Wall Street Journal, CBC News, or other notable finance journals that says "CFI's sales practice is misleading", then we can add a section on Wikipedia. Remember, we need reliable sources. Unfortunately, you and I or your employers are NOT reliable sources. So you cannot unilaterally add that section regarding "misrepresentation" because many people will disagree with you.
  5. Finally, just a tip for you. If you are interested in finance, do CPA/CFA/CBV. FMVA is indeed very popular in the middle east and in certain countries where CPA/CFA are too expensive or not feasible, FMVA serves as a good substitute. But if you really think CFI is misleading, why waste time here trying to give them a bad name?
Can we come to a consensus now? - Kazuha1029 (talk) 02:47, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Ok agreed. It’s a bit disingenuous on their part imo, but I suppose it’s on them. I just hate to see people get misled potentially. Seniorzk (talk) 02:50, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I misread and apologize Seniorzk (talk) 02:52, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for being reasonable. You had a great point. And that's precisely why we try to maintain neutrality on this article. Notice I have removed all sales language (along with reference to BBB). CFI's website, naturally, will try to advertise its products/services, and we must keep that out of Wikipedia. Let me know if you have any further questions and appreciate your contributions. - Kazuha1029 (talk) 02:59, 22 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
