This entry states the following:

CVC is defined by the Business Dictionary as the "practice where a large firm takes an equity stake in a small but innovative or specialist firm, to which it may also provide management and marketing expertise; the objective is to gain a specific competitive advantage.

The Business Dictionary definition referenced here actually gives the quoted definition for "Corporate Venturing". I would argue that Corporate Venturing is as defined and as such, is very different from the idea of Corporate Venture Capital. From the case study examples of Corporate Venture Capital I am collecting, it could be argued that Corporate Venture Capital can take many forms including direct investment as the article goes on to describe, but I believe that investments in new ventures by corporations can also take various forms from 'off balance sheet' direct investments through to arms-length investments by organs either directly owned or managed externally by professional venture capitalists.

The various forms of investment each have specific merits and limitations.
