Cortex Command Community Project
[edit]This has been edit-warred back and forth a few times. The person who is removing it has a personal grudge against the Cortex Command Community Project (CCCP) team, and uses the claim that it's a mod and therefore undeserving of being mentioned as an excuse to justify the removal. CCCP is not a mod - it's an open-source continuation including changes to the base game engine, and is incompatible with the original Cortex Command Steam release.
The original lead developer of Cortex Command, Data, is in the Discord channel and has given his blessing towards the project. Furthermore another two former official developers of Cortex Command, CaveCricket48 and Weegee, have directly contributed to the CCCP. It's also directly listed as a pinned topic on the official Steam forums.
The person removing this mention, Inquisitor Shadowlord, is involved with the Cortex-Command-Community-Continuation, or "C4", which is a fork of the CCCP code by disgruntled former contributors. See https://www.cortexcommandcenter.net/channel/faq for details:
Q: why the fork from the CCCP?
A: CCCP history and me (pawnis) being its original founder aside, we consider the CCCP to be rotten to a gruesome degree and no longer conductive to anything good or healthy, including but not limited to actual progress on Cortex Command.
- Looks like some people need to declare their conflict of interest and not edit this directly.-- Deepfriedokra (talk) 20:48, 21 February 2023 (UTC)
I admit I'm not really a regular at editing and have yet to make an account, but I don't think its in general appropriate to allow a modding community to shill itself, unless its in some way actually a continuation of the original project. As far as I know they cannot in any way prove that they actually 'have the blessing' whatever that means, of the original creator, let alone any real engagement from that person, or to in any way be a real continuation of the actual game. Its just some tiny modding group. Is there some precedent for enumerating all of the active modding efforts for any given game? --98.97.60.94 (talk) 09:08, 14 March 2023 (UTC)
- as of today the conflict of interest discussion relating to this was archived due to inactivity: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Conflict_of_interest/Noticeboard/Archive_201#Cortex_Command
- The conclusion was that there are no reliable sources for either community, therefore neither has grounds to link to itself on this page. 98.97.138.195 (talk) 04:26, 17 October 2023 (UTC)
First released as a demo?
[edit]Yeah, the game went through 18 builds before it became a limited demo, which was at build 19 in which you had to buy it to make it work as it had in build 18, but of course with nifty new features. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.67.168.135 (talk) 06:34, 23 November 2008 (UTC)
- I've made a slight alteration to the wording so that it is more accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Forsaken1111 (talk • contribs) 08:44, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Linux?
[edit]Why does it say that this game supports Linux? I can't see it mentioned anywhere on the official website... If it does, can someone show me a link or something (my interest is also from an user standpoint) Darkuranium (talk) 23:05, 30 March 2011 (UTC)
- I have removed Linux from the list of supported platforms, since the official website clearly only supports Windows and MacOS X. The game does work perfectly for me using Wine though: Cortex Command on the WineHQ AppDB) --Demitsu (talk) 12:46, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
- The game has Linux binaries available from the HIB download page. No clue about anywhere else. I will add it, but just make it know that the binaries might only be available from the Humble Indie Bundle 2/3? Unit158 (talk) 03:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
Gameplay Section and Metacritic score
[edit]I might make a small gameplay section, detailing the plot and how to play (duh) and some info on mods.
Do you think it would be worth adding the metacritic score to reception? I think the game got a biased score because it is different. (Honestly, if this had turned out like Minecraft where it was a legend among games before being released it would have gotten a better review). Unit158 (talk) 03:32, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
28-SEP-2023 Edit request
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest was declined. The reviewer would like to request the editor with a COI attempt to discuss with editors engaged in the subject-area first. |
- What I think should be changed:I believe the link to the cortex command community project and references to it should be removed.
- Why it should be changed:I believe the edit-warring constitutes self-promotion on part of the party trying to preserve an external link to themselves. Although it is not possible to prove this as many edits are from IPs rather than accounts, I believe the high degree of engagement both in deleting and also restoring the link on an otherwise inactive page circumstantially implies this to be the case.
- References supporting the possible change (format using the "cite" button):
I am declaring a conflict of interest as a member of the community involved. I believe this is a controversial change due to the extensive edit warring back and forth as can be seen in the page edit history. For context, there was a recent community schism. One half of the schism is not and has not attempted to link to itself in the wikipedia page, however I acknowledge members of our group have been involved in repeatedly attempting to delete references to the other group. The original reference was added in this edit and was made by an IP address, but was presumably in reality also self promotion.
Thanks for any review.

[edit]- Controversial issues ought not to be resolved through the COI edit request feature, a feature which is primarily meant for COI editors to propose nominally controversial edits to be reviewed by a neutral third party editor. Edit requests involving overtly controversial proposals such as the ones proposed here are not recommended for use with the
{{Edit COI}}
template.[1] - The process of content dispute resolution needed here should begin with a discussion of the issues with local editors here on this talk page. To that end, the COI editor is invited to continue the discussion below.
- If consensus is achieved, and that consensus is that the information ought to be removed and/or clarified in the article, the COI editor may then invoke the
{{Edit COI}}
template to have a neutral editor make those changes. If no consensus is found here on the talk page alone, the COI editor may then follow up by using any of the subsequent dispute resolution strategies listed under WP:CONTENTDISPUTE.

[edit]In my opinion the above 'Cortex Command Community Project' section constitutes an attempt at resolving the issue here in the talk page, which has failed and the edit war has continued regardless. I will post to the conflict of interest resolution board. 98.97.138.195 (talk) 00:35, 29 September 2023 (UTC)
