Named after the river??

[edit]
the name is derived from the Canadian river of the same name.

Saw a similar reference on the Cowichan River page. Was the Herald named specifically for the river?? As its name comes from that of the Cowichan people (Quwutsun....Cowichan Tribes is a band government incorporating them and other groups in the area). I think your reference, or the heraldic authority's own information, is in partial error. Cowichan refers to the area, the lake, the valley, and all derive from the people-name.Skookum1 (talk) 19:04, 22 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, the name of the river is derived from the people, but I think in this case, the herald is named after the river. As far as I know, all of the offices of arms are named after rivers, so I don't know why this one would be any different.--Eva bd 15:40, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It might help to explain that in the article, i.e. that heralds are all named after rivers - i.e. not regions, towns, valleys, peoples. Not sure if this distinction is relevant elsewhere, maybe it is...Skookum1 (talk) 16:23, 23 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
