I seem to recall that Craigievar was a project initiated by the Mortimer family who then ran out of cash whereon the Sempill-Forbes took it over to create the castle we know today. Al 11:59, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

There was a news report about this recently (January 2010), about the remains of an older structure being visible in the masonry when the 1970s harling was removed. I think the date mentioned was 15th century - but whatever the date was, the current text is inaccurate in suggesting that the castle is just early 17th century. It is only its final form that dates from the early 17th century. This is important because the form of Craigeivar castle is often presented as having come from reasons of vanity: the Forbes family perceiving there to be status gained from living in a castle-like structure. But the evidence now exists that a "real" castle (from an age when castles still performed a defensive function) lies at the core of Craigievar. Meowy 17:23, 3 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Haunted category[edit]

I have removed this article from Category:Reportedly haunted locations in Scotland as the article appears to make no mention of ghosts or other paranormal activity associated with Craigievar Castle. If any reliable sources mention reports/legends of hauntings or similar activity being recorded and indicate that this is a significant part of the Castle's story, then obviously this could perhaps be added to the article with citations and the article put back in the category. However, as it stands there does not seem to be good reasons for the article being in the category. Dunarc (talk) 19:28, 24 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
