Merge proposal

[edit]

So the IOC has changed taxonomy for Crex. It is now a monotypic genus for corn crake. Looking at the current Crex article, it now looks like it should be merged with corn crake, which I did, but an editor suggested I discuss it first before moving....thoughts???Pvmoutside (talk) 8:24, 7 August 2020 (UTC)

With the placement of the African crake in its own monotypic genus Crecopsis, it leaves the corn crake as the only species in the genus Crex. For monotypic genera English wikipedia merges the genus article into the species article - see WP:MONOTYPICFAUNA. Thus this article should be a redirect to corn crake. I see no reason to make an exception in this case. -Aa77zz (talk) 15:37, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Agree. This combo article would be somewhat superfluous in any case, as both corn crake and African crake are very well developed and duplicate everything here. With the genus becoming monotypic, it's an obvious redirect. I put up a merge template because there might be material here that should be moved over (haven't checked in detail, it's a bit long for a diagonal read). --Elmidae (talk · contribs) 23:19, 7 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
