Update

[edit]

Could someone please update the busiest routes section in the article for figures of 2013? Diogo sfreitas (talk) 00:00, 21 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello fellow Wikipedians,

I have just added archive links to one external link on Madeira Airport. Please take a moment to review my edit. If necessary, add {{cbignore}} after the link to keep me from modifying it. Alternatively, you can add {{nobots|deny=InternetArchiveBot}} to keep me off the page altogether. I made the following changes:

When you have finished reviewing my changes, please set the checked parameter below to true or failed to let others know (documentation at {{Sourcecheck}}).

Cristiano Ronaldo AirportMadeira Airport – This airport hasn't yet been renamed, so it should remain at the old title until the rename actually occurs. It was recently moved without discussion to this title. ~ Rob13Talk 23:51, 23 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. There is nothing mentioned on official sites. [1], [2]. (edit) There is this [3], which uses the future tense. —Nelson Ricardo (talk) 13:06, 25 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Yep. Too soon, lets wait for the name to become official, but, oh well... it will change soon enough, no need to make a mess, whatever way the move goes. A quick search confirms that so far Portuguese language news report a *future* name change (and one reports that Madeira Island is a... peninsula?! :-) - Nabla (talk) 23:16, 30 July 2016 (UTC)[reply]

The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

Proposed merge with Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo

[edit]

Declined PROD. I doubt more than a few paragraphs could be written about this statue. Better to merge it with the airport. pbp 15:28, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some sources
I'd also merge/delete Statue of Cristiano Ronaldo (probably into Cristiano Ronaldo). --SuperJew (talk) 16:06, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I agree on that count with SuperJew. All that is noted in that article is that it doesn't look like him. The notability of that statue is completely not on the scale to deserve an article. Harambe Walks (talk) 16:08, 30 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo, part 2

[edit]

So, I resurrected Draft:Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo. The artist has created a second bust depicting Ronaldo, so I'd like to revisit whether or not this topic is notable. I'd like to be given time to make further improvements to the draft, and I expect there will be additional sourcing published about the second original work of art. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:50, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Kante4, Harambe Walks, SuperJew, Liam E. Bekker, Number 57, and Verbcatcher: I want to be completely transparent about this, given how things went the first time around. Pinging you all here as editors who either contributed to the original article or participated in the above merge discussion. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:56, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Hurrygane, Jmorrison230582, No Swan So Fine, Exemplo347, Greasemann, Inter&anthro, GiantSnowman, Matthewishere0, ChrisTheDude, and Purplebackpack89: Also pinging all editors who participated at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo. ---Another Believer (Talk) 22:58, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
It's not notable. Worthy of a mention in the airport article perhaps, but there's no way it should have a standalone article. Number 57 23:03, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Can you explain your reasoning, given the extensive secondary coverage? ---Another Believer (Talk) 23:08, 30 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Same as before, not notable. Kante4 (talk) 12:42, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
But why not? ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:59, 31 March 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Because nothing has changed, other than the presence of a second bust. I'd say it is worthy of mention on both the Ronaldo and the airport articles, but not an article on its own, whether one sculpture or two.Crowsus (talk) 10:18, 2 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I've read the article that was given as a source and this article states that the second bust was commissioned by the website 'Bleacher Report' and the original bust is still outside the airport, so this source does not support the statement StringXV (talk) 15:13, 3 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The Guardian has reported that "Suddenly, this sculptor was the most famous artist in the world."[4] This makes either the sculpture of the sculptor notable, and justifies articles on either or both. Verbcatcher (talk) 14:38, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

The sculptor already has an article here, created at the same time as the first bust unveiling. His body of work only describes that piece, but I feel that's acceptable. However, since there is an article on the creator and sentences in the articles for the subject and the location, I don't really see why anything for the piece itself is really needed. Crowsus (talk) 14:54, 4 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Update

[edit]

Just for the record, the history of Draft:Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo was merged into the history of Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo. I'll take the blame for there being discussions at multiple locations (I was trying to get folks to contribute to the above discussion), but for those who may be following, HJ Mitchell acted on Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Public_Art#Bust_of_Cristiano_Ronaldo and User_talk:KJP1#Bust. While I'm against this article being redirected, I'm glad to have the histories merged. Editors can view the updated draft here. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:39, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@KJP1: Pinging you so you're aware of this discussion. Thanks. ---Another Believer (Talk) 06:39, 28 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

@Christian75: Thanks for adding categories to the bust page. Do you have an opinion re: moving the draft into main space? ---Another Believer (Talk) 21:37, 8 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

For the record, KJP1 said here:

"Another Believer - I'm genuinely puzzled, having read the objections from both outings. Your draft is high quality and as Notability is determined by coverage, it seems to me that it fully qualifies. I think there's an "I don't like it" element to the opposition. I feel the same about bitcoin articles, but I don't stand in their way when they are well sourced. If you'd like me to accept it, I'm happy to do so, although you can, of course, place it in mainspace yourself. Just drop a note on my Talkpage. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 17:17, 26 April 2018 (UTC)"

I take full responsibility for discussing this topic in too many spaces, and right now I am just working to put feedback in one space to continued discussion. @KJP1: You're welcome to comment here further, if you'd like. ---Another Believer (Talk) 16:41, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I am not quite sure where to weigh in about all this, so I'll start here. It seems to me that both the airport and the bust deserve separate articles. The airport article why is not under discussion, so, the bust. The article Bust of Cristiano Ronaldo has some issues that need to be addressed but it seems clear to me that there needs to be an article about this work. It seems to have garnered worldwide attention and as a piece of bronze statuary will be around for a long time. Keep. Carptrash (talk) 18:37, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Based on weight of RS, probably. It would look better with a picture of the bust.Zigzig20s (talk) 18:39, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I've added the "image requested" tag to the talk page. ---Another Believer (Talk) 18:46, 9 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"180 columns, each about 70 m (230 ft) tall."

[edit]

No. Just No. Look at the pictures. Probably more likely 70 ft. --BjKa (talk) 13:49, 21 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Official name

[edit]

In 2017 there was a ceremony held by the Government of Madeira in which the airport was supposed to be rebranded as "Cristiano Ronaldo International Airport". News reports said something about the name change being contingent on the government transportation authorities approving it. I couldn't find sources discussing the details of the name change further after that.

Now in 2022, the official website of the airport and that of the Portuguese airport authority don't include a user-facing mention of this supposed name. There are no mentions in corporate annual reports, and no announcements from the ceremony. There is only a single instance of this name on their site, appearing under the non-official looking "Corporate" > "Environment & Sustainability" [5].

Portuguese newspapers still occasionally mention this name as if it were the actual name.

But does anyone know: Did this name change not go through?

Cristiano Ronaldo International AirportMadeira Airport – This undiscussed move from 2020 [6] was twice contested before (in 2018 and 2016). As mentioned when this was last contested, "Madeira Airport" is the clear common name, with there being no mentions of this alleged official name on the airport's website. 157.157.113.120 (talk) 13:23, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
