Serious deficiencies[edit]

The article is nearly devoid of any update relevant info. I have removed some duplications, outrages POV-pushing, unsourced statements, utterly irrelevant material. The topic of such artciles is not travel of persons from one country to the other, but primarily official relations (or lack thereof): diplomatic, military, trade, etc. Virtually nothing on that. I have done some updates, but more could be tapped from the Russ WP article. The section ″Russians in Croatia″ is obviously off-topic here, it should be a separate article.Axxxion (talk) 20:02, 29 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

United Union, Pls stop restoring material whose relevance to this article is unclear. This article′s topic is bilateral relation between Russia and Croatia, which means its immediate scope is a period since 1991, or even 1992. Some background info is called for perhaps, but it must be relevant to bilateral relations of the countries, not be about individual intellectuals′ trips and letters containing their dreams and fantasies. Also, the context should be shown, not just catalogues of names of persons, unknown to the general public. Naturally, it has to be written in sth approximating comprehensible English too.Axxxion (talk) 14:45, 8 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Depreciated sources; verifiability; BLP[edit]

I have to follow up on this years-old topic here because the problem discussed has not disappeared, but, on the contrary, has worsened. Numerous depreciated sources are used, without any possibility of verifying them, for highly disputed claims, very sensitive, bearing in mind that they are used for claims on living people, so Wikipedia's policy on biographies of living persons should also be taken into account.

The two of Wikipedia's content policies: Neutral point of view (NPOV) and Verifiability (V), which should be strictly followed, as directed by WP:BLP, are violated here.

Examples:

According to Croatian press, the strategy of the 2019 presidential campaign of Zoran Milanović was conceived in the corporate "club" owned by JANAF, whose CEO, Dragan Kovačević, was arrested on criminal charges of corruption the following year, a move that was interpreted as the United States′ settling of scores with Russia.

For this statement, one of the two references is a link to dnevno.hr, without any link to the specific article. Thus, it is impossible to verify whether the article supports the above statement. The second reference is just to an article, possibly in a print version of the same weekly (Dnevno), without url link.

In the period between 2017 and 2019, while formally out of politics, according to Croatian press reports, Milanović stayed in Moscow multiple times (Milanović was then in private business, having founded a consulting firm called EuroAlba Advisory).

Here, the reference is also an article from a print version of the Dnevno weekly. Again, there's no possibility to verify the article's content.

Having become president in 2020, Milanović began to make public statements and foreign policy moves aimed, in the opinion of Croatian political analyst Davor Gjenero, at undermining the neighbouring Bosnia and Herzegovina′s prospects of joining the EU and NATO as well as the government of Croatia, a policy that Gjenero attributed to Milanović being beholden to Russia′s geopolitical agenda in the region.

This statement is made as a connection to the previous two statements, which are impossible to verify. The last statement uses two sources, both of them interviews from Davor Gjenero published by Radio Sarajevo. The issue is that here original research is used in order to create a synthesis.

Another major issue is that Dnevno is a right-wing tabloid, with very problematic content:

  • Index.hr: "Dnevno.hr: Od desničarskog ekstremizma i teorija zavjera do reketarenja" (English: Dnevno.hr: from right-wing extremism and conspiracy theories to racket)
  • Jutarnji list: "U SVAĐI SAMI SA SOBOM Srpska verzija portala Dnevno osuđuje naše navijače, a hrvatska pisanje srpskih medija" (English: In conflict with itself: Serbian version of Dnevno condemns our fans, while the Croatian version condemns their writings)
  • An excerpt from Serbo-Croatian Wikipedia on Dnevno, with its controversies properly sourced: "Daily is often criticized as a frivolous and unreliable source: among its news there are various discredited topics from pseudoscience, such as those that the Earth is a flat plate,[1] that "two Suns" are seen in the sky,[2] that Justin Bieber is a reptile ,[3] that evolution is "the work of Satan",[4] that "the Earth has moved",[5] that the planet Nibiru is coming,[6] that "Paul Walker is not dead",[7] pointing to the alleged controversy surrounding vaccination [8] and other conspiracy theories. In addition, various far-right texts were found,[9] In 2013, the Croatian Journalists' Association (HND) condemned the text "Croatia is the land of monkeys" in which Dnevno publicly called out four Croatian politicians for not being baptized. HND therefore criticized the newspaper for its "fascist-racist-chauvinist views", and called the text itself "garbage" that encourages hate speech. Index.hr also denounced Dnevno for pro-fascist texts, as well as for "propaganda of the association In the name of the family. "[9] Due to news like this, and in order to preserve his own credibility, Croatian parliamentarian Josip Kregar stopped being a columnist for Dnevno at his own request. He praised and criticized Josip Šimunić daily at the same time - depending on the Croatian or Serbian edition - during the greeting 'Za dom spremni' at the stadium in 2013.[10]"

Per WP:GRAPEVINE, "any contentious material about a living person that is unsourced or poorly sourced, is an original interpretation or analysis of a source, or a synthesis of sources and relies on sources that fail in some other way to meet verifiability standards should be removed. --Governor Sheng (talk) 18:56, 24 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
