QUOTE FROM WIKIPROJECT ODM Non-English language awards The basic rule is that the names of foreign-language awards should be translated into English except where there is an established track-record of referring to it by its foreign-language name. Therefore we use Iron Cross in favour of "Eiserne Kreuz", Pour le Mérite in favour of "For the Merit" or "Merit Award", and Param Vir Chakra in favour of "Bravest of the Brave Award". This effectively means that the article will reside at the customary English-language name. Having said this, editors are encouraged to create redirects for all reasonable permutations and variations on the name, whether in English or in the native language.

Levels[edit]

The article should make clear what the difference between the levels mean:

   * Bronze star (étoile en bronze): for those who were mentioned at the regiment or brigade level.[2]
   * Silver star (étoile en argent): for those who were mentioned at the division level.[2]
   * Silver gilt star (étoile en vermeil): for those who were mentioned at the corps level.[2]
   * Bronze palm (palme en bronze): for those who were mentioned at the army level.[2]
   * Silver palm (palme en argent): represents five bronze mentions.[2]

Attestation or Certificate[edit]

My Grandfather (Serving in the AEF 32nd Divsion in France in 1918) received the Croix de Guerre after the Aisne-Marne Campaign. His portrait in 1920 shows him wearing the medal. However I have a certificate from the Republic of France for his award that is dated 1925. Is there some other certificate issued at the time the medal is awarded, rather than after the war is over? I've read every single decree and order on this award, no official certificate was issued, but most units produced their own which can be quite beautiful and are highly collectible. Fdutil (talk) 18:31, 29 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Why no link to list of recipients?[edit]

Notable foreign recipients[edit]

Errr... under the section "Notable foreign recipients" there are two men who are so un-notable that their redlinked entries here are their only appearance on en.wikipedia.
