Transport section: Metrolink stations[edit]

In response to a resent edit by 82.7.244.81, I've re-included Woodlands Road Metrolink station under the section, in spite of it lying in neighbouring Cheetham. My reasons for this are that the station lies in close enough proximity to Crumpsall for it to be considered to serve at least the southern part of the ward, which houses the locally important Abraham Moss leisure centre, Manchester College Campus and Crumpsall library respectively. Lower Crumpsall page has been merged[edit]

Explanation of my recent edits 28 June 2011[edit]

Lead section: I've removed the reference to Crumpsall bordering Middleton as this seems to be in reference to the pre-2004 ward boundaries where Heaton Park formed part of Crumpsall ward. It is now a part of Blackley. More information can be found here. I've moved the sentence about the hospital to the lead section. Further details of it's history would be useful in the appropriate section.

  • Sticking with geography, there was a mention of a biscuit factory which I've removed. I know it existed, but I haven't yet found any references to it. Please add these back in if you find suitable sources, but I would recommend adding them to the Economy section, giving a historical perspective on commerce in the area.
  • Economy: I've left in the unsourced sentence: Crumpsall is largely composed of houses and schools with little commerce or industry., but am I correct in thinking that the new Tesco and the Cheetham Hill Shopping Centre actually lie in Crumpsall ward?
  • Can we have some sourced definition of Lower, Higher and Crumpsall Green at all?
  • Also, this Manchester City Council page mentions Blackley Village as forming part of Crumpsall ward. Should this be mentioned in the article and it's content updated?
  • I've moved the reference to the murder of PC Stephen Oake to the History section, because I feel it is a more appropriate location for this event, rather than as a main feature of Crumpsall.
  • I've removed any sentences lacking sources which I imported from the formerly separate Lower Crumpsall wiki page. Please feel free to go through the history, re-add and elaborate on them if you find suitable sources for them.
  • I've created a separate Religion section which is badly in need of expansion, and maybe images of the places of worship which should be freely available. Some information on the history of religious activity in the area would be fantastic too. I've left the unreferenced line about St Thomas' Church as it originally came from the Lower Crumpsall article and someone may be able to elaborate upon this.
  • Finally, for an area which has no less than three types of infrastructure either named after or originally funded by Abraham Moss, esq, I am surprised that we have no information whatsoever on the man. I would love to pursue this, but equally, I would like to know if other readers/editors know of any good sources of information on the individual and would be willing to share this, or even to start writing a section on them and their association with Crumpsall. There's a brief mention here that tells you who he was. Richerman (talk) 11:33, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
You just have to get on with it! I googled a bit and added what I found. :-) --J3Mrs (talk) 13:05, 28 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That's great! I'll do some rummaging for more information! :-) Tong22 (talk) 08:30, 30 June 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notable People[edit]

I believe one of the main actors from Last of the Summer Wine was born or lived on Ash Tree Road, Crumpsall. I understand his funeral was at St. Anne's RC church in Crumpsall. Can someone please clarify and/or confirm, and update the article as necessary? 82.21.55.166 (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 14:24, 2 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
