What is "Jewish Law" - surely it is Jewish custom, Jews don't have their own laws.203.184.41.226 (talk) 04:00, 2 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You mean like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halakha — Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.186.52.226 (talk) 19:02, 29 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

What I personally see is that the man cannot live without making his ethnicity the centre of his life. He lived the first part of his adulthood making his Hungarian ethnicity the centre of his life, attending nationalist rallies, being in nationalist parties, and so on. Once he found out he is a Halakhic Jew, being rejected by Hungarian nationalists, he felt obligated to make Jewishness a centre of his life: and there you have the kippa, tefilin and so on, he has to become the most devout among those whom he used to hate, because he does not know how it's like to not base your life around your ethnicity.
The moral of this story is: don't base your life around something hereditary like ethnicity, because you are never 100% certain, and if something turns out to be wrong, you will look like a dumbass. --Spafky (talk) 07:43, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Not Jewish

[edit]

It may be true that "Under Jewish religious ritual laws this makes Szegedi a Jew". But it is more accurate to write that "Under Jewish religious ritual laws Szegedi is deemed to be a Jew". One quarter Jewish blood (probably less) does not make anyone ethnically Jewish, and it certainly does not make them religiously a Jew - religion is not inherited.101.98.161.149 (talk) 23:05, 9 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Under the Halakha, you're a Jew if your mother is Jewish, and she is Jewish if her mother is Jewish, and so on. If you are "genetically" 50% Jewish through your father but have a goyishe mother who didn't convert, you're not a Halakhic Jew. But if you are 12.5% Jewish because your mother's mother's mother was Jewish, you are a Halakhic Jew. --Spafky (talk) 07:32, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
