Govern as manager[edit]

User 74.73.239.125 added the following edit: "Edward B. Lamar, Jr. was the manager of a team which included 2B Sol White and pitcher George Stovey. (James A. Riley's Biographical Encyclopedia of the Negro Leagues states that former Giants manager Cos Govern returned as manager, but this does not appear to be correct.)" Because the editor did not cite a source for this information, while the information saying the Govern returned as manager does come from a source (Riley, p. 329), I've reverted the edit. I'm certainly aware of the possibility that Riley may be incorrect, but we need to see a citation to the source of the information in order to correct a sourced statement. If you or another editor can provide a source, we'll gladly accept the change. BRMo (talk) 03:13, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Understandable. My source is Michael E. Lomax, Black Baseball Entrepreneurs, 1860-1901. On page 131, he states, "Govern was now out of black baseball." In his discussion of the X-Giants later on, he talks about Lamar as manager in some detail, with no evidence of Govern. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rory1262 (talkcontribs) 23:55, 6 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I've changed Govern to Lamar and added Lomax's book to the reference list. BRMo (talk) 10:36, 8 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]
