The result of the move request was: moved to "Cuisine of the Central African Republic". DrKiernan (talk) 11:07, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Centrafrican cuisineCentral African Republic cuisine – Why was this moved? It seems that word doesnt exist or is a neologism. The page Central African Republic doesnt even have this name as a demonym(Lihaas (talk) 18:11, 24 January 2014 (UTC)).

Okay. Central African Republic cuisine is quite a mouthful, but I can go along with it. How do we make it happen? Thanks for creating the article and for all your extraordinary efforts improving the cuisine content and other areas of Wikipedia Northamerica1000. I hope your year is off to a great start. Regarding the page move, it's best to wait the full seven days before commencing, to allow time for others to opine. Also, thanks for the kind words, and also for your efforts to improve Wikipedia. Northamerica1000(talk) 22:23, 24 January 2014 (UTC)
"Centrafricain" is pretty widespread in French, being the equivalent to "Centrafrican", so a search engine search can be lead astray by this use. -- 70.50.148.122 (talk) 06:04, 25 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Strong support Strong support of a move, and I prefer Cuisine of the Central African Republic. Centrafrican is not a word and it is not even close to clear; it could just as easily be referring to the food of central Africa in general. Red Slash 04:16, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
    • "Centrafrican" is a calque from French but it surely is a word. It was used for the short-lived CAR airline and crops up occasionally in other places. (See these Google Books results or this news article for example.) It does not refer to central Africa in general. Although English speakers tend to be relatively less familiar with unusual African demonyms than European ones (e.g., Spaniard, Swiss), they are out there (e.g., Burkinabé, Equatoguinean, Nigerien) and are used by at least some natives of those countries. Having said all that, you're right that it is less approachable to use the current title than titles that avoid this adjective.  AjaxSmack  05:29, 26 January 2014 (UTC)
      • Hmm, well, I was going off of Central African Republic, which only lists Central African as the demonym. (Which is not particularly clear, either.) I consider myself to be a little smarter after reading your response. Thanks!! Red Slash 01:11, 27 January 2014 (UTC)
  • Support - I was the one who moved all cuisine articles to Xxx cuisine format several years ago. The move was based upon the naming conventions for national identities (e.g. cuisine is a subset of culture, French culture begets French literature, French language and French cuisine) established here on WP. There are exceptions within this rule, and this is one - basically when there is an issue of a name either being confusing (Cuisine of the Dominican Republic & Cuisine of Dominica, both could be called Dominican cuisine), ambiguous (American cuisine could refer to cuisines of the Americas, the United States or Native American cuisines) or simply unwieldy the Cuisine of Xxx format should be used. --Jeremy (blah blahI did it!) 05:31, 29 January 2014 (UTC)
