In History of the Celtic Place-names of Scotland Blackwood 1926 p 496, W J Watson states that the ros is named after the horse stream. Ros-maircnidh is named after the ros or promontory itself, as is the adjacent Fortrose Teuchter20 (talk) 23:04, 12 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
