Where built ?

There seems to be no info about where these planes were manufactured. Were they made in the USA ? Or made under license in the UK ? Or Canada ? Eregli bob (talk) 09:14, 22 November 2012 (UTC)

I believe almost all P-40's were built in the Curtiss-Wright factory in Buffalo, New York in the US though they also had an engine plant in Lockland, Ohio and another plant in Louisville, Kentucky. As far as I am aware they didn't license-build any P-40's overseas, though they may have been partially assembled in the UK and Russia after being shipped there. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.1.191.34 (talk) 11:31, 21 September 2015 (UTC)
If you look at the full designation of a US military aircraft (P-51K-10-NT, P-40B-CU, etc.) you will notice the factory codes. All P-40s were built in the Curtiss Buffalo plant (thus all have CU factory codes). ZLEA (Talk,Contribs) 19:48, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

Cancelled models

This article is greatly lacking in detail. But what bothers me is that it does not include some cancelled variants, such as the XP-40Q and the never built P-40P. - ZLEA —Preceding undated comment added 14:57, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

Yes it is not that good but we do have more infomation on the cancelled variants at Curtiss P-40 Warhawk. MilborneOne (talk) 18:06, 10 January 2017 (UTC)
OK, but can someone add the XP-40Q to the P-40N section and the P-40P to the P-40F/L or P-40N section (the P-40P was a development of both the P-40F/L and N). - (ZLEA 14:34, 11 January 2017 (UTC)) — Preceding unsigned comment added by ZLEA (talkcontribs)
Please sign your posts ZLEA, you can add information yourself if you have a reliable source to quote. MilborneOne (talk) 00:12, 12 January 2017 (UTC)

Kittyhawks in Australian use RAAF, and Aussie RAF pilots.

Kittyhawks were vitally important to the Australian war effort, being flown in several theatres, and especially in the Pacific.

Page Restructure/Clean-up

I'm working on redesigning the article to be more like other aircraft variants pages (like North American P-51 Mustang variants). Here's the link in case anyone wants to contribute to the redesign. - ZLEA (Talk,Contribs) 19:49, 25 January 2018 (UTC)

New Material Added

I've been adding some new material to the page (which I created a few years ago when I did the major revision of the P-40 page) and fleshing out the entries for each type. A lot of the information I've added is from

A History of the Mediterranean Air War 1940-1945 by Christopher Shores (et al) Volumes 2 and 3, and Black Cross / Red Star volumes 1,2 and 3, as well as a handful of other publications. I'll add more bibliography material and references as time allows. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.203.202.130 (talk) 22:33, 21 February 2018 (UTC)

I am in the process of putting in references please do not revert changes or otherwise vandalize the page for a few days. If you see a specific statement that you believe requires a references please add the <citation needed> tag. LankhmarJoe (talk) 18:56, 14 May 2018 (UTC)

Another round of changes - please be patient

I am in the middle of another short round of changes. I just added some material from an interview with an Australian P-40 Ace (Bobby Gibbes) and I have more material from two books (one French one US) with improved / more accurate data on production numbers for each subtype, statistics such as weight as well as performance such as range and ceiling.

I also have some data from a biography of Australian Ace Clive Caldwells specifically regarding the Tomahawk subtype which I will transcribe.

I am hoping to get all of this done tonight. Each additional text passage will be added simultaneously with the reference citation, though the books will need to be added to the bibliography first. LankhmarJoe (talk) 17:39, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
