Mid-latitude cyclones are the same as extratropical cyclones

I'm a meteorologist and I can tell you that mid-latitude cyclones and extratropical cyclones are one and the same. I've recommended the extratropical cyclone page be merged into this one, or the other way around. Famartin 03:40 02 May 2006 (UTC)

Agreed, an extratropical storm is simply any storm that is not a tropical storm. This can be verified in the American Meteorological Society glossary. The definition needs to be changed because it is wrong. I am a meteorologist with a BS and MS.

It helps to remember that the two terms are not familiar to the average person. Conflating the two into one article would require a "go to" or "see also" guidepost

Continuing, I just checked to see if there was any referral for the phrase Circular Storms. There was none and that's the general descriptor for hurricanse, tornadoes, and cyclones. yet it -- Circular Storms--doesn't rate an entry.

It's rather a matter of specific to general or general to specific when it comes to disseminating information.

What is an extratropical region? This statement is also wrong going along with my above statement that extratropical and mid latitude storms are one and the same. The word "extratropical" means: extra = outside, tropical = tropics; thus the word means any storm outside the tropics or that is not tropical in nature - an extratropical/mid latitude storm. The general public is already filled with misinformation. Please do not contribute to the cause by butchering meteorology.

This article is so completely wrong it is ridiculous. I suggest you have a professional meteorologist write this. Extra-Tropical Storm Florence??? Are you kidding??? Please erase this whole article.

Name change of article

Needed corrections have been made. This article is now cyclogenesis, since that is all it currently deals with. Sections that are more relevent to extratropical cyclone have been added to that page. Since it's been mentioned for 5 months on one page, and been proposed for deletion on the other page, it is done. Thegreatdr 10:57, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Great. Now that all is settled, this article is now about Cyclogenesis, and as such I've added a little info to TheGreatdr's edits by addedg a sourced opening statement that better describes the articles subject. The Mid-latitude cyclone redirect has been pointed to the appropriate place, now being Extratropical cyclone.
