Name

[edit]

The official name of the ski area is Cypress Mountain. There is no reference on the webpage to the area called Cypress Bowl. 174.116.38.15 (talk) 16:34, 17 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other cites can be found, as it's a very common usage and is as I recall the original usage. I don't have the time to look, but "the truth is out there".Skookum1 (talk) 15:13, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The ski area is now called Cypress Mountain for marketing purposes, although none of the three mountains bear that name. The ski area used to be called Cypress Bowl, named for the basin between the three mountains (Black, Strachan and Hollyburn). I don't recall when exactly the ski area was renamed. Sometime in the 1990s? phreakydancin (talk) 07:57, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
that seems about right; it was when the ski area was privatized and was come up with by the new company, as I recall, and there was some controversy, as I also recall. There is no Cypress Bowl listing in BCGNIS, not even a rescinded one. Colloquial usage was also "I'm gonna go skiing on Hollyburn" but that, as a usage, goes back to the 40s and before when people actually hiked up to their cabins to go skiing....(I know of someone who, piece by piece, moved not only a huge cast-iron stove, a real nice one, but also a big old-fashioned upright piano....on his back).Skookum1 (talk) 20:34, 15 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Where should info about Hollyburn (ie the cross country skiing area) go? And for the record, Cypress Bowl is also a familiar term to (I'm a Greater Vancouverite and grew up skiing) — Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.189.84.196 (talk) 21:58, 26 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yes I agree that references to Cypress Bowl should be on the article, but probably not on the Name of the article, if the article is only about the ski resort. And yes there should be reference on the article to the wider area, some of which is in the Park Use Permit to the ski resort. BTW the actual legal name of the resort is Cypress Bowl Recreational Limited Partnership, (parent owner is Boyne Resorts) although the first name is not in the article, but should be. I may add some of this. RGB2 (talk) 07:17, 23 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
