Armament
[edit]So far the only slide i have seen has states "32 Mk 41 VLS to 12 Large missile launchers". I dont think this is meant to mean that the ship will only have 32 VLS, given that the graphic pretty clearly has more, i think it is just meant to mean that 32 will be able to be exchanged for 12 larger launchers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tamoraboys (talk • contribs) 14:14, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
- there are 3 set of 32 VLS. only 1 is swapable. it still use Arleigh Burke style illuminator which mean it VLS performance is identical, some what of a disappointment, but then if they change it, they would need different missile for the ship class, so economically it make sense to use the exact same fire control so they only need 1 type of missile for both class. look like the navy really learn from the pain of zumwalt class... 101.127.15.2 (talk) 03:16, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
- The number of VLS cells for DDG(X) has not been specified anywhere. The hull form hasn't even been decided yet. The photo is for illustrative purposes only. Stating that DDG(X) will use " Arleigh Burke style illuminators" and "there are 3 set of 32 VLS" is pure speculation on your part. Moodyman1 (talk) 19:02, 18 February 2023 (UTC)

Copying allegations are ridiculous
[edit]"Parts of the design concept of the DDG(X) have also been noted as externally similar to the Chinese Type 055 destroyer by some defense analysts, with two classes of ship sharing similar stealth profiles, propulsion configurations, and vertical launch system placements."
none of the specific allegations make a lot of sense.
The first source gets several things factually wrong such as stating that the type 055 has an integrated mast and repeating the yak-141/F-35B copying myth.
The second source says " the rear VLS cell bank has moved to amidships similar to the Chinese People Liberation Army Navy’s (PLAN) Type-055 Renhai-class destroyers." however in the images the vls cells are placed between the smokestacks rather than aft of the stacks as on the 055.
The first article correctly points out that when it comes to power plants the DDG(X) "will employ integrated electric propulsion (IEP), previously used on the Zumwalt class.", a ship that predates the 055. so rather than copying the 055 by this logic the 055 is copying the Zumwalt.
You would have a much stronger case saying that the renders we've seen just represent a natural progression from the Arleigh burke and that any similarities with the 055 are due to Convergent evolution or the 055 taking cues from the AB, not the other way around. ...so rather than copying the 055 by this logic the 055 is copying the Zumwalt
", or more to the point, DDG(X) is copying Zumwalt. - wolf 08:09, 10 November 2023 (UTC)- The 055 is probably inspired by the 052C/D which were in turn probably inspired by the AB's YEEETER0 (talk) 07:56, 29 November 2023 (UTC)
How many crew members
[edit]I’m really curious about how many people it takes to run this 66.30.151.107 (talk) 11:04, 19 July 2024 (UTC)
