Sources and promotion[edit]

RyanHazelton asked at User talk:A930913 about the sources I removed. They were, in order:

An archived copy of chartstats.com. I cannot tell how reliable that source is (and it looks like user-submitted content, which would make it unreliable), but it didn't write so much as a single sentence about DJ Q and in particular did not confirm that he is known for that single.
An interview with DJ Q, published by MTV. While it was among the better of the sources I removed, an interview, where DJ Q himself is the source of the information, clearly is not an independent source. Also, it doesn't confirm what it's cited for.
DJ Q's Facebook page. That's a source which clearly is not independent of DJ Q and doesn't satisfy Wikipedia's standards for reliability at all. Facebook clearly is not subject to any editorial oversight and has no reputation for fact-checking or accuracy.
Discogs, which again does not write a single sentence about DJ Q and didn't support the statement it was cited for. Discogs can be used as an external link in a dedicated "External links" section at the end of the article, but a mere track listing of this kind is pretty much useless as a reference.
Ministry of Sound, DJ Q's employer. Clearly not an independent source, and it doesn't confirm "[h]e soon began a new monthly show" anyway.
junodownload, which looks like an online music store. Not a reliable source; interested in selling DJ Q's music, not in providing accurate information about him. No editorial oversight. Saying this source supports what it's cited for would be quite a stretch.

Most of those sources are back, plus a few new ones:

The Hub Entertainment is "a specialist radio plugging, PR and management agency", not a reliable source.
Plexi PR publishes press releases, in this case by DJ Q's record label: Neither independent nor reliable.
Fact Magazine actually looks like a reliable third-party source, the best of the entire bunch, almost on par with The Sun. Better yet, this source confirms what it's cited for, too.

Furthermore, all the promotional claims are back, including:

DJ Q went to college at age 16? Source please?
The ages only fit if DJ Q was 12 in 1997, but I don't see a source for that (admittedly that's not a promotional claim, but it would still require a source).
"... 'Love Like This (The Reasons)' which was a big hit on the Bassline scene" - says who? None of our sources, let alone the third-party ones.
"Q produced more hits such as 'Tea Bag', 'Dirty' and later 'You Wot!'..." - two of which didn't chart at all. I wouldn't call those "hits", and I don't think our sources do. In fact, not even the discography mentions those "hits".
"... mainstream success..." - what source confirms that?
"During his decade in the music industry, Q has also played music in countries across the globe" - source? Also, a precise list of tours and dates (with sources, of course) would be much better than such vagueness.

If that's not fixed immediately, I'll once again revert to something based on the more neutral older version. Huon (talk) 18:36, 24 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
