Suppressor Effectiveness

From the article here on the wiki: In air, sound pressure levels above 85 dB are considered harmful, while 95 dB is considered unsafe for prolonged periods and 120 dB causes an immediate perforation of the ear drum (tympanic membrane). If this gun works as described, it's the worlds most useless silencer. Maury 13:12, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

well, the famous MP5SD6's silencer only manages to suppress the noise level to about 109dB (in K7's case, 111dB). While K7's silencer isn't a high quality one, I highly doubt it is as useless as you think.Sch614 20:51, 6 September 2007 (UTC)
Silencer is a misnomer for sound suppressors anyway. They do not turn guns "silent" to the point where no one hears the gun go off. The major military benefit of a suppressor is that the report gets altered in such way it doesn't resemble a gunshot and is harder to locate by ear. --TLein (talk) 12:08, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

This source http://v3.espacenet.com/publicationDetails/biblio?CC=DE&NR=1553874A1&KC=A1&FT=D&date=19711007&DB=&locale= with is the patent, says the HK MP5SD's noise is 70dB. So if the silencer of the K7 r"reduces" gunshot noise to 120dB its really a worthless one...--88.78.87.105 (talk) 14:28, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

You have to keep in mind that sound pressure level measurement techniques for sound suppressors were not standardized back then. Reported results can vary greatly depending upon where the equipment is located in relation to the muzzle. Atmospheric conditions also play a role. --D.E. Watters (talk) 23:27, 8 November 2009 (UTC)

incorrect information

"As the K7 uses a subsonic 9 mm cartridge, there is little need for the weapon to use the Kalashnikov-derived gas operated system of the K1A." That's totally bogus. The K1A uses a direct gas impingement system like the M16, not a Kalashnikov-type gas system. The K2 uses a piston driven AK type gas system, but the K2 has even less to do with the K7 than the K1 does. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.177.13.254 (talk) 20:12, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
