Updates to the page

[edit]

Hi, I'm suggesting the following edits to this page to correct errors and updpate content. Thank you. --Lorraine Seabrook (TheBlueHeronofHopewell)

  • First section (unnamed):

In the first paragraph, first sentence, remove the words "Israeli" and the second half of the sentence ("; as well as construction of gender identity in the media.") so that the complete first sentence reads: "Dafna Lemish is a media researcher in the fields of children, youth, and leisure culture.

  • In the second paragraph, remove the first no-longer-accurate sentence: "She serves as the Dean of the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts, at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale." and replace it with accurate statement: "She is the Interim Dean and Distinguished Professor of Journalism and Media Studies at the Rutgers School of Communication and Information [1] in New Brunswick, New Jersey."
  • Remove the fourth sentence entirely ("Lemish is Associate Dean for Programs at Rutgers University in New Jersey") as that is inaccurate.

  • Add this as the new, accurate second paragraph: "An International Communication Association (ICA) fellow, she is an author and editor of numerous books, journal articles, book chapters, encyclopedia entries, reviews, and commentaries on children, media, and gender representations." [2] She is also the founding editor of the Journal of Children and Media.[3]

Citation 2: https://www.icahdq.org/page/Fellows Citation 3: https://www.tandfonline.com/journals/rchm20/about-this-journal#journal-metrics

  • Add this as the third paragraph in the first section: "Lemish's research interests include children and media, gender representations and identity construction, qualitative methodologies, and feminist media studies. Her more recent research projects include the role of mobile media in parent-child interaction; grandparents mediating their grandchildren’s media use; and the lived experiences of academic immigrants." [4]

  • In the Biography section:First paragraph, first sentence, remove "in Haifa" and replace with "and raised in Israel." so it reads, "Dafna Lemish was born and raised in Israel." After this sentence, replace "She worked at Oranim College teaching media literacy, and later directed the Institute for the Research of Media and the Family, a non-profit organization later integrated within the Israeli Women's Network in Jerusalem, then ceasing to exist independently. From 1990-1996 she was a Senior Lecturer at The New School of Media Studies, Academic College of Management. In 1995 she moved to Tel Aviv University, as part of the founding team of the Department of Communication, where she taught until 2010 and served as Chair for 5 years." with the more complete:

"She completed her BA degree in Geography at Tel Aviv University, her MA in Communication at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, and her Ph.D. in Communication at Ohio State University. Upon return to Israel, she worked at Oranim College and later directed the Institute for the Research of Media and the Family, a non-profit organization later integrated within the Israeli Women's Network in Jerusalem.[5] From 1990-1996, she was a founding member and a Senior Lecturer at The New School of Media Studies, Academic College of Management.[6] In 1995, she moved to Tel Aviv University as part of the founding team of the Department of Communication, where she taught until 2010 and served as Chair for five years."[7] citation 5: Turin, O., & Friedman, A. • Biography section, second paragraph, first sentence: add "while on Sabbatical at the Center for Media and Child Health at Harvard University," after "In 2010" so that first sentence reads: "In 2010, while on sabbatical at the Center for Media and Child Health at Harvard University, she accepted a position as Chair of the Department of Radio, Television, and Digital Media at Southern Illinois University, later becoming the Dean of the College of Mass Communication and Media Arts. [8] In the second sentence, after "Since 2016," replace "she serves as an Associate Dean for Programs at the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University, and was promoted to Distinguished Professor in 2019. She has been an active member of the International Communication Association since 1980." with the accurate statement: "In 2016, she moved to New Jersey to serve as an Associate Dean for Programs at the School of Communication and Information at Rutgers University, and was promoted to Distinguished Professor in 2019. In July 2022, Lemish assumed leadership of the Rutgers School of Communication and Information as interim dean until July 2025. [9]
