Cousins? Sisters?[edit]

Are Molly and Daisy sisters or half-sisters, as many of the sources say? Or is that a shorthand for children of the same generation in the same family?

The book seems to refer to them as cousins in a couple of places:

"Two of her aunties had babies, little girls ... Now she had two sisters. ... First came Daisy, who was born at Mad Dog Well ... followed by Gracie, who was born at Walgun Station ..."
"'Our mothers are sisters' The girls from Jigalong understoo, as they were also the daughters of sisters."

But it also repeatedly refers to all three of them as sisters, for example:

"The two surviving members of the trio, my mother [Molly] and her sister Daisy ... their sister Grace"

Do they share a father?

Whatever the position, this article should be consistent with the others, including Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence and Rabbit-Proof Fence (film), and Molly Kelly (Australian Aboriginal). 213.205.240.247 (talk) 17:11, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is confusing. I initially had them listed as sisters (following several RSs), but Doris Pilkington seemed like a more reliable source as a member of the family in question. Doris also refers to the girls as "cousin-sisters" in another of her books, Under the Wintamarra Tree. Maybe it is shorthand of their culture as you stated? She also implies that, at the very least, the three girls do not share the same father (though one man might have fathered two of them), saying of the three girls: "They'd been sent there by the Government because their fathers were white..." She also writes, "Molly and Daisy reached Jigalong and moved out into the desert with their families until the Government lost interest," which also implies some degree of differentiation. I agree, the pages you list need to be consistent. I'll look around for more sources to see if I can find out the names of Daisy's parents, as Molly's are known (Maude [no last name] and Thomas Craig). Enwebb (talk) 17:31, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]

At least one source states that Thomas Craig was in fact Daisy's father [1]; "Her mother was a member of the Mardudjara peopl,e; her father, Thomas Craig, was an English-born fence inspector, who had several children with local women." I'll revise the article to reflect that Daisy and Molly were both cousins and half sisters. Enwebb (talk) 17:48, 2 July 2018 (UTC)[reply]
