Conflict with Ali Raymi

[edit]

Ali Raymi, then an undefeated Strawweight responded to Dan Rafael tweet on strawweights with padded records, Ali Raymi responded by calling him Fat Dan Rafael a nickname that stuck with Dan Rafael, since then Dan Rafael avoided responding to Ali Raymi, until Raymi death 2 years later, Dan Rafael criticized the WBA for the "utterly and absolutely indefensible" ranking situation. He explained, commenting that Raymi's record was "hollow... considering he fought absolutely nobody of remote recognition or accomplishment as he fashioned that glittering but meaningless mark..."[1][2]

Danny Rafael clarified this

[edit]

Dan Rafael replied & made it clear that Ali Raymi calling him Fat Dan has nothing to do with his criticism of the Ali Raymi after his death.

  • Matt (Chicago)

Serious question: Do you feel you're being disrespectful at all towards Ali Raymi's death with all these jabs at the WBA? His professional career might have been not as "serious" as ranked contenders, but he still died in a bombing out of his control.

  • Dan Rafael, King Fight Freak (1:16 PM)

My issue is with the putrid WBA, not with the man who died. Whether he was a great contender or a guy with a record built against -- pardon the pun -- stuffs, the WBA was irresponsible for rankings a dead person 2 weeks after he died. And his death was not a secret. It was all over the place.Vestigative (talk) 04:02, 23 February 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Fat Dan Nickname is older

[edit]

Does anybody have any information on when did Dan Rafael get this nick name? Google searches show its been used in the forums over 15 years? It predates Ali Raymi & Adrien Broner use of this name by at least a decade Beyerprate (talk) 08:34, 6 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]
