Category Turkish Jews
[edit]I removed this category as unsourced.
Can a citation be provide here for review before this category is readded?
Right now it looks like he would fall in Turkish people of Jewish descent, if there is such a category.
If the subject self-identifies as Jewish in a RS, that would be enough for inclusion. Thank you, --Malerooster (talk) 17:22, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, I added him to Category:Turkish people of Jewish descent, for now --Malerooster (talk) 17:28, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- The first citation in the article, says he's Sephardic. Sephardim, by definition are ethnically Jews of Spanish descent. Their forefathers lived in Spain for hundreds of years, until 1492, since when they've lived in Turkey (more precisely in the Ottoman territories). The article speaks of his father owning a pen-factory in Istanbul etc. About the existence of such a category. I only noticed it when you removed this page from the cat. (I've this page in my watchlist). Whether such a cat is necessary or not is another subject. However, Dani Rodrik's page can normally be included in that category as long as such a cat. exists. :) --Universal Life (talk) 17:39, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- I've seen now that you added him to another category. Could you elaborate the difference between the two? I didn't understand what's the difference. Thanks--Universal Life (talk) 17:40, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- I believe the source says he is descended from Sephardic Jews. No big deal. Hopefully this is now acceptable to all. heers, --Malerooster (talk) 17:42, 8 August 2014 (UTC)
- Sephardic Jews only indicate that they are from the Iberian Peninsula, that is, they are not necessarily from Spain. The Blue Rider 21:33, 22 December 2023 (UTC)
