Native

[edit]

@Jamie Tubers: I notice you removed Category:Actresses from Imo State just because you didn't see any "Born in" specified in the article. Please note that Native is a synonym of the aforementioned phrase per this source and this source. I have already restored the category back. Stanleytux (talk) 08:54, 11 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • the referenced article says she "hails" from Imo. "hail" can mean "place of birth" or "place of origin". We can't decide which it is, even though I'm so sure the article is refering to her place of origin. I guess the editor decided to use "native" because we Nigerians generally confuse both words to be the same. Well, I will revert it back and correct the wording...... Until we find an article that exclusively state where she was born, we can't have the category there.
And who says we can't decide? The phrase "Hails from" is used generally by authors and editors to point out a subject's birthplace. Same is applicable here on Wikipedia. I can provide numerous examples to back up this claim, check the following; Taft family, Irshad (actor), Kaare Andrews, Malcolm Ingram, Roshini, Mark Angelo, Lyrian, Downset., Jack Gilding, Trilogy (group), The Whip (band), John Foreman (musician), John Foreman (musician), Summercamp and more. Please carefully go through each and every one of them. These articles are written by editors from different parts of the world. Also note that Wikipedia is not a Nigerian website but a global encyclopedia. Regional views are hardly considered relevant here and please endeavour to sign your posts so we can known who is talking and when. Stanleytux (talk) 22:12, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
