external links vs. references
[edit]Do we need to include external links that are already used as references? It seems like we'd only need to provide those links because they weren't used in the article as sources? --valereee (talk) 18:55, 28 April 2019 (UTC)
- I agree. 7&6=thirteen (☎) 19:39, 28 April 2019 (UTC)

Clean up sourcing
[edit]Now that the article has survived AfD, I'd like to work on removing the sources that have been added that are not reliable for basically anything. I'm a little worried there will be objections, so I want to emphasize that I am not setting up for a second AfD. Genericusername57 found enough to meet my minimum requirements, and I am happy to accept them. But I'd like to get rid of all the poor sourcing that was added before gnu found the sig cov in reliable sources. I'm happy to do this one by one, the worst offenders first, if that's what's necessary to gain consensus. Does anyone have an objection to the general idea of cleaning up sourcing? --valereee (talk) 20:54, 3 May 2019 (UTC)
- Okay, got rid of the IMDbish thing; that shouldn't be anything anyone would object to seeing go. Tabizine seems to be an uncurated news aggregator? Agreed that this is not reliable sourcing for really anything and certainly not a strange assertion such as her 5'11" height being the reason for her success? Being taller than average may be a basic requirement for even entering the field, but a model needs a lot more than simply being 5'11" to succeed. I am proposing eliminating this source next. --valereee (talk) 15:04, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Thank you very much for cleaning up the refs. Tabizine is a Japanese travel magazine. I don't know how reliable it is, but their web presence seems professional; they give the names of their editorial staff and whatnot:[1][2]. I agree there's really not much about Graas in that article, so ditching it wouldn't be a huge loss. Cheers, gnu57 16:24, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Genericusername57, we can come back to that one! Getting rid of the academy awards source -- doesn't seem to even mention her, or I couldn't find it. --valereee (talk) 16:35, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- I think her name's there in a fold-out cast list--but there's no point in keeping it now that there's a secondary source. Cheers, gnu57 16:37, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Oh wait, the Oscars site shows that it was the 68th one specifically--the Dutch ref just mentions that she'd appeared in one. gnu57 16:41, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Genericusername57, I can't figure out where to find her name, but I'll accept your word for it. I'm a little afraid this is getting into primary research. I mean, if the fact she did the Oscars show was noteworthy, wouldn't someone else be mentioning it somewhere else? I feel like we shouldn't be using the Oscars program to show this. --valereee (talk) 17:25, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- I found that the Oscars put a video of her appearance up on youtube [3]: it's like a who's who of 90s supermodels, but each one is shown only briefly. The announcer says her name when she walks out (at ~50s), and she's also shown standing beside him at the end. I'm not sure how big a deal that is, but I think it's safe to say that she was there. Cheers, gnu57 17:59, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Genericusername57, yeah, but is it noteworthy that she was there? We could probably find a mention of her two turtles somewhere, but if it's not being talked about by someone in a reliable source, is it really worth mentioning on her WP article? She probably sneezed last week, too, ya know what I mean? :D --valereee (talk) 18:05, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- The Noordhollands Dagblad profile said that she'd modelled for the Academy Awards, but didn't specify precisely when and how:

- The refbomb on the Aniston news is silly. Now that we don't need all of these to try to somehow prove notability via multiple mentions in stories about other people, I think we can cut to a single mention. The US Magazine one is the only one that is used anywhere else, so I'm just going to cut refs 13-18, okay? --~~ valereee (talk) 16:38, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- Yes please, go right ahead. gnu57 16:41, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
- OK, gotcha, so the ND profile makes it noteworthy, the program just provides detail, thanks! --valereee (talk) 18:50, 4 May 2019 (UTC)

I can't get to this source, it seems to be supporting that she's married to a coach/day camp owner (the title of the article certainly has nothing to do with van Graas or even her husband, I assume this kid was on her way to or from camp or something when the incident took place?) but what do we need this source to support? Karoliszyn, Henrik; Sandoval, Edgar; Schapiro, Rich (29 August 2009). "A real hero: Quick-thinking teen Rachel Guzy pulled bus brake after driver dropped dead". New York Daily News. Retrieved 1 May 2019.
- Yeah, it's really trivial: it just includes a one-line quote from him and mentions that he owned the camp that hired the bus. I had found this newspaper profile of the guy which focusses on his work as a basketball coach, but decided not to include it because it doesn't mention her. I think there are more details about her family life in the Prettiest Girl video, but I don't speak the language. Cheers, gnu57 19:03, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
Is the Noordhollands Dagblad story an interview? I'm wondering because of the odd wording of this paragraph, which is sourced to it: "Van Graas recognizes that her film acting has been largely typecast as a model in one form or another. She notes that being on set with professionals has helped her grow as an actress. She aspires toward a wider set of roles. "If she had the choice, she knows what she wants to play.... Something like Charlize Theron in Monster. Arriving nicely [with a] twenty kilos [gain] and walking without care. That seems wonderful to me. But that is not really realistic."
- It's sort of a career overview interspersed with quotes from her. The Noordhollands Dagblad one says
about typecasting, but the mention of Theron is in Metro NL :Zij wist rolletjes te bemachtigen in 'Maid in Manhattan' en 'Something's gotta give'.
- I think I'm just going to leave that. Eventually some native Dutch speaker will come along who can figure it out. --valereee (talk) 20:18, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
I found this article very cluttered and have removed and added texts and refs. Awesome that the cleanup is being continued with a focus on refs! My focus was on texts and here too there is room for improvement. gidonb (talk) 21:59, 4 May 2019 (UTC)
