Derivatives

[edit]

I'd like to move this page to Dansyl and include the dansyl chloride, dansyl amide, dansyl cadaverin, etc. neffk (talk) 16:26, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think we could have both a dansyl article on the group, and this article on what I think is the most common derivative. Tim Vickers (talk) 16:42, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to me that there would be a lot of overlap between these two derivatives---mainly because they have such similar photophysics. Perhaps, instead of trying to keep multiple copies of the information accurate and up-to-date, we could have one article with a section for each derivative. And the appropriate re-directs could be made from dansyl amide and dansyl chloride pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Neffk (talkcontribs) 14:30, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Redundancy isn't really a problem, as we aren't short of space. You could put the general information that applies to all these compounds in the dansyl article, and then have sub-articles on each compound, with the standard table of physical properties, ID numbers etc. Tim Vickers (talk) 15:07, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not concerned about space. I'm concerned about keeping multiple copies in sync. But the solution you outlined above would be fine with me. neffk (talk) 17:20, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think that will be a problem in practice, as there is very little editing of these articles - in fact you're the first person to make any significant changes since I created the dansyl chloride article back in 2007! Tim Vickers (talk) 17:30, 12 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Spectra

[edit]

I could also add the UV/Vis spectra for some derivatives, along with extinction coefficients. I have spent some time looking for this type of information on the web and couldn't find it---at least, not easily. neffk (talk) 16:26, 11 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
