Spelling

[edit]

Kwamikagami has proposed that we use AIATSIS spelling for aboriginal groups. In the absence of any other official orthography, and with no clearly predominant common name, I plan to boldly move Darkinung people to Darkinyung people. I do note that Ford (2010) prefers spelling Darkiñung, but don't feel his authority trumps AIATSIS right now. Luckily Darkinyung people doesn't yet exist and I can do the move without summoning an admin. Pelagic (talk) 17:45, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia:WikiProject Languages/Confirmed language names at AIATSIS at S65, but contrast List of Australian Aboriginal group names which follows Tindale's spelling Darkinjung with a 'j'. Pelagic (talk) 17:53, 29 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

@Pelagic: Should the other be moved to Darkinjung Land Council? It's a bit confusing to have otherwise identical names that differ only by an arbitrary orthographic choice. — kwami (talk) 06:13, 30 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
