What Happened

The article should be more explicit that the tanker lease deal which she spearheaded was greatly inflated, and that she drove the price up specifically to get the job with Boeing upon leaving her government job. Isaac Crumm 02:19, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

My recolection was that Sears & Druyun had an affair which, while not illegal, led to investigation of them that led to the corruption discovery. Anyone have anything on this Saltysailor (talk) 11:38, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

Right now, I don't have the source, but someone will follow up. As a civil servant in the Acquisition Corps, she was held to strict standards regarding relations with contractors. One of these is soliciting a job. Though she started recusing herself from certain decisions, she used her daughter's position as a back-door conduit in securing a job - a definite prohibition. Also keep in mind she not only secured the job for her daughter, but her son-in-law as well. If not for her position, would those two have gotten positions with Boeing? All three were let go from Boeing as a result of the scandal. Also, she achieved her position during the Clinton years, not under Bush (in fact, the Bush team who wanted her out). She basically echoed the Clinton line of "privatizing" as much of the acquisition and logistics base of the Armed Services. She called the organic depots "the last bastions of communism" and was determined to shut down the in-house capability to support the warfighter by assigning the source of repair to vendors - the result was to increase the cost of weapon systems both in their acquisition and support, delayed deliveries and reduced performance. She also maintained a separate office with staff at Soesterberg AB in the Netherlands - the only Deputy Assistant Secretary to have an overseas office. Her successor closed the office deeming it unnecessary for operations. She injected her authority in the realignment of workload after the 1995 BRAC round, forcing partnerships with vendors who proved incapable of supporting the workload, while excluding others who were. Also keep in mind that her plea bargain was for five months if she was cooperative - she received nine months because she was less than forthcoming of providing the required information. The bottomline is that she received a paycheck every two weeks like everyone else, and she was not entitled to anything else.maclilus (talk) 15:49, 15 October 2009 (UTC)

Not notable

The only reason for this person having a wikipedia article to themselves, apparently, is the United States Air Force tanker contract controversy. There is nothing else to this. Michael M. Sears, the former CFO of Boeing, a much more noteworthy individual, has already had his article deleted and redirected onto the Tanker Scandal article, I see no difference between that situation and this one, I think we can cut this article loose unless somebody can think of a good reason to keep her around, something noteworthy which can be developed into the article. This person is notable as a government official and for the corruption involved. Michael Sears may be notable and probably is, but that is a different issue. As for Druyun, she is bigger than the Boeing corruption issue. Had this not been discovered, she would have meritted an article based on Government service. As the Govt official in the scam, she became more notable than sears. Was DD accused of other conflicts eg relating to Space-based laser ?

Was DD accused of other conflicts eg relating to Space-based laser ? eg pushing Boeing and competing bidders into a joint SBL-IFX project team ? I've heard it informally but have no published sources. - Rod57 (talk) 17:54, 7 March 2021 (UTC)
