Hi,

My name is Stewart Holden and I wrote the profile of Darryl Francis which appears on the ABSP website (of which I am webmaster). I copied much of the same text into his Wikipedia page, but since I wrote both articles I presume this isn't a problem?

Thanks in advance.

Stewart

Hi, thanks for contacting us. The simple answer is "maybe". If you wrote the article content, you may license it under the GFDL; be sure you understand the implications of doing so. The trouble is that under the Berne Convention, your text was automatically copyrighted, making the situation a little awkward. Content on Wikipedia must be free, and available for educational and commercial use. Probably the best thing to do is to post your comment above on Wikipedia:Copyright problems, under the listing for this page, and we'll be able to help you further. Thank you for your contribution, and for your willingness to help us out of this potential legal wrangle. Rob Church Talk 23:10, 27 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hello again,

Can I just rewrite/rephrase the original article so it isn't a replica of the ABSP page verbatim? I can easily add more information as well. I'm new to Wikipedia so didn't understand the legal complications, otherwise I would just have written a suitably different article to begin with!

Cheers,

Stewart

Absolutely; go ahead and create the new article at Darryl Francis/Temp. I'll have the old article deleted and the new one moved into its place. (Ordinarily, I'd say just go and edit the main article, but special rules apply once a copyright violation is declared.) Welcome to Wikipedia, and thank you for your efforts. You can always reference your page, as it arguably will provide much of the information you are stating. Check out the Manual of Style for information on formatting and laying out your article, for the best possible results. Many thanks. Rob Church Talk 00:34, 28 September 2005 (UTC)[reply]

OK I've done that but nothing has changed.

Yes, unfortunately now it's listed, there's a damn waiting period. It will be attended to in due course. Rob Church Talk 17:28, 1 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
