This is not an Indian government recognised university. so in the name, the university should be removed — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sabith1990 (talkcontribs) 12:14, 5 March 2019 (UTC)

Accredition, "upgrade to university" and related issues

MalayaliWoman asked at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Bahauddeen Muhammed Nadwi about some of my changes to the article.

  1. I removed "non-accredited" because there was no reliable source stating that it's not accredited. That also seems to be beside the point because DHIU doesn't appear to grant any degrees beyond "the honorific title of ‘Al-Hudawi’" (and for decidedly Islamic subjects such as "Transformational Leadership for Imams"; it seems rather obvious that such a "religious" diploma can't come with state accredition). Rather, they make their students take a degree course at an Open University like Indira Gandhi National Open University for "secular" humanities degrees. Since this scheme wasn't mentioned in secondary sources, I didn't add it to the article.
  2. Regarding the "university upgrade", I paraphrased the source: "He was Pro-Chancellor of Darul Huda since it was upgraded as a university." Apparently it was an "Islamic Academy" earlier; according to their website the upgrade happened in 2009. If I had to guess, I'd say that that's likely the date when they started the "take a course at an Open University" scheme that means students leave DHIU with a university degree (granted by another, properly accredited, university). I couldn't find a source on what exactly the upgrade entailed, though, so I left it at what The Hindu reports.
  3. MalayaliWoman suggested that the article title be changed to just "Darul Huda". I oppose such a change. Every single secondary source refers to the organization as "Darul Huda Islamic University", be it The Hindu, The New Indian Express or the Saudi Gazette. I found some other newspapers that mentioned it but didn't say enough to make a worthwhile addition to the article; they too always used "Darul Huda Islamic University". That's clearly the common name, and thus the name Wikipedia should use. Huon (talk) 18:08, 19 March 2019 (UTC)
Hi, Mr.Huon, Thanks for the explanation. Go ahead. MalayaliWoman (talk) 18:55, 19 March 2019 (UTC)

Notability Issues

Name and Title

  1. Who is the Bahauddeen Muhammad Nadwi Qadri and what is the role vice chancellor in the academy? Kutyava (talk) 08:25, 29 October 2019 (UTC)
  • It is Islamic University so the role of VC is there and it is moreover affiliated to several World level reputed Islamic bodies like Al Azhar.ScholarM (talk) 14:27, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

  1. http://www.jaihoon.com/6722.htm and http://twocircles.net/2015jun30/1435682381.html like a promotional press release. Kutyava (talk) 08:29, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Disruptive editing by Kutyava

Whatever info an academic university should have, I am trying to add with Google books, News sources and from its own website which is RS in matters of various points related to it but Kutyava seems to have different intentions to disrupt this editing. He has edited many pages related to Kerala movements and I am hopeful he can help improve rather just to delete RS info.ScholarM (talk) 14:27, 29 October 2019 (UTC) Please rather than deleting RS info, justify here your edits. Which did several times in one single day.ScholarM (talk) 14:31, 29 October 2019 (UTC)

Discussing proposed changes

In order to expand this stub, I am editing with a positive mind. I have edited wiki pages for long and want to discuss what is the problem in adding information from reliable sources here? If I am committing any mistake that may be corrected/ improvements may be suggested.

  • 1.Darul Huda was established in 1986 as an Islamic college, with the name Darul Huda Islamic Academy. It is being run by Samastha Kerala Jamaitul Ulema Samastha (EK faction). It was established as an Academy, not as Madarsa to present a modernistic view of the institution.[1]

2. The Urdu speaking students of north India are also enrolled in various courses of Darul Huda.[2] According to Kochi Post, it imparts education to a bunch of capable but underprivileged boys, who, despite heavy odds, have made their presence felt in national and even international academic spheres.[3] 3.Departments According to its official website, it has five major departments presently.[1] It provides Islamic education and degrees in Quran, hadith and other religious sciences and combines them with government-approved degrees. It has accepted the government-approved degrees to improve the career prospects of their students but it still remains focused on Islamic education. The government approved degree in English, History and Sociology[4]Dar ul-Huda offers a 12-year course that integrates religious education with important general subjects.[5]

  • Faculty of Shariah and Usul al-Din,
  • Faculty of Languages,
  • Faculty of Humanities,
  • Faculty of Da'wah and Islamic Culture,
  • Faculty of sciences and Technology

Can't an Educational Institution have info about its department?

4.Academic Courses I found these pics available on the wiki, but not this Article. I wish to know how these pics will violate wiki policies?

Darul Huda Convocation ceremony.
Darul Huda Islamic University.

The 12- year course has been divided into four stages - a 2-year Preparatory course, a 4-year Secondary course, a 4-year Degree course and a 2-year PG course 80. The syllabus includes religious subjects such as Quran, Tajweed, Hadith, Usul ul-Hadith, Fiqh, Usul ul-Fiqh, Aqeeda, Tasawwuf, Nahvu, Sarf, Mantiq, Balagha and comparative studies of various religions, as well as secular subjects like Maths, Social Sciences, History, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. In addition to this, Arabic, Urdu, English, and Malayalam are taught. Facilities for extracurricular activities like debates, discussions, oratory training, computer studies, and sports are also provided. The institution follows selected textbooks of both Kerala State and CBSE syllabuses for its teaching of secular subjects until the secondary level. While learning finer points of religion they also master subjects like Social Studies, History, Urdu, and English.[5]

5. Darul Huda has memberships in various federations of global Islamic Universities including [List of Members of FUIW|Federation of the Universities of the Islamic World ] prominent among those are Al Azhar University, Madeena University, Riyadh University.[5] This helps the graduates of the University to continue their higher-study in different premier universities. Darul Huda has signed different types of Memorandum of Understandings with many Indians like AMU, Jamia Millia Islamia, Urdu Arabic Persian University Jawahar Lal Nehru University, DU among others [6] and with international universities including International Islamic University Malaysia and with the University of Kuwait. The Maulana Azad National Urdu University recognizes the courses of Darul Huda. [7] [8]

  • Placements

The graduates from this religious University are working in the mainstream. Dr.Faisal KP Hudawi was appointed as Director of Aligarh Muslim University Kerala branch recently in 2019.[9] In 2019, Dr. Mahmood Kooria, graduate of Darul Huda, received award of 2,50,000 euros (2 crore rupees) Veni grant for one of his projects by the University of Leiden.[10] Before that, Muneer Aram Kuzhiyan and Shihab Pallippuram had bagged the Fulbright scholarship to pursue doctoral research in US universities.[11].

  • Publication

It publishes journals and magazines including Thelicham’, an Islamic cultural magazine.[12][13]

  • Alumni Association

The alumni Association of Darul Huda Islamic University is Hadia (Hudawis Association for Devoted Islamic Activities).[14]

  • Affiliated Institutions

Besides the Central Campus and Off-Campuses, DHIU extends up to twenty affiliated colleges.[15]Cite error: A <ref> tag is missing the closing </ref> (see the help page).</ref>

I don't think anything here is unverified or coming from unreliable sources. Due to the non-understanding of the local language, I could not find local sources. Moreover, educational institutions can't always show about themselves from newspapers or books. A number of government Universities recognized its courses is itself proof and evidence of its notability. I hope the above points may be included. Suggestions are welcome. ScholarM (talk) 17:05, 31 October 2019 (UTC)
I don't see any comments from involved editors. I will add the above-proposed changes within one day. ScholarM (talk) 18:28, 1 November 2019 (UTC)

I was asked to comment

Though I'm not Indian, I've worked on a great man yuniversity pages here, including Indian universities.

The content we include is pretty standard. The principle is , that material of interest only to current or prospective students in non-encyclopedic and considered promotional  ; encyclopedic material is what the general public who has heard of the university, might want to know about it. Thus , the proper content here is somewhere in the middle, between what had been added and removed. I will add back what I think should go
  1. We do include general information about hte program. That this university is a combination of traditional Islamic and Western is perhaps the most basic thing about it.
  2. We do include general information about the campus and constituent colleges, their size and number of students and faculty
  3. We do include information about the degrees and majors
  4. We do mention major academic features usch as the lirbary
  5. It is customary to include general information about the student life: sports, accommodations, clubs.
  6. We do include information about notable alumni, limited to those with WP articles or clearly qualified for them.
  7. We do include more than one picture if ithe additional ones add anything

On the other hand

  1. We do not include details on what specific courses the students takeyear by year
  2. we do not include details of the admissions requirements
  3. we do not include details about their their placement record
  4. We do not include details about library subscriptions or equipment in laboratories.
  5. we do not include details or accommodations and meal plans, or costs, or transportation facilities, or list every student organization and their leaders.

For almost all of this, affiliated sources are quite sufficient andare usually the only ones available. Anything is external guides or the like will probably just be supplied by the university in any case. True independent sources for thes are available only for the most famous or oldest universities. As a general rule, almost all universities have been considered notable at afd discussions if there is more than minimal information.

I have made the necessary changes. Sme details still need checking tomorrow. DGG ( talk ) 05:44, 18 November 2019 (UTC)

You have added reasonably what is required as per the above points and removed what was not required as such. I will try to find more info available through online sources. ScholarM (talk) 16:34, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
User:DGG, I added info about another magazine in Arabic, about peer-reviewed ISSN Journal, about women education and about its publication of Quran translation into local language etc. As per the above points was it really promotional? ScholarM (talk) 18:49, 19 November 2019 (UTC)

Is Darul Huda an Islamic University or an Islamic Academy?

The institution is legally registered as the Darul Huda Islamic Academy. Leading universities in India refer to the institution as "Darul Huda Islamic Academy" and "Madrasa Darul Huda al-Islamiya". No university in India has used the term Islamic University to refer to this institution. Since 2009 the institution has been promoting the keyword University. Darul Huda Islamic University is an university accredited internationally. It is located at Chemmad in the Kerala state. Suhail Chemmad (talk) 10:10, 9 December 2021 (UTC)

COI tag (December 2021)

Per standard practice, and the discussion at ANI. Symmachus Auxiliarus (talk) 23:55, 27 December 2021 (UTC)

Symmachus Auxiliarus, per WP:WTRMT, you need to support the tag with actual evidence or discussion (not just a notice that you have placed the tag), or anyone can remove it. Maintenance templates are not meant to be on articles permanently. At the very least, you should link to the discussion you refer to. The article is only 92 words long, and it has recently been gutted. In addition, Tinkvu apparently recently "Cleared all the issues mentioned" [1]. The tag says "It may require cleanup to comply with Wikipedia's content policies, particularly neutral point of view." If there is no more cleanup to be done, there is no reason for the tag. That would be this rather large amount of text. The latest diff is this one. Hunc (talk) 07:13, 28 December 2021 (UTC)
Softlavender, I added the COI tag because of the ongoing disruption. Meat and/or socks. The usual. As soon as this isn't an issue, the tag can (and should) be removed. It's not a scarlet letter, and I didn't add it so that it would have that effect. As you point out, the article has now effectively been reduced to a sub, and is sufficiently NPOV. But I think the tag should stay until we can be relatively sure the COI editors have (mostly) given up. Symmachus Auxiliarus (talk) 14:54, 31 December 2021 (UTC)
