NFL draft[edit]

Watson was drafted into the AFL in 1963 by the Boston Patriots. As was common in this era, he was also selected in the NFL draft the same year.

Sources agree he was drafted 9th round, 122nd overall in the '63 NFL draft. They differ as to what team selected him: It was either the Baltimore Colts^[1]^[2] or the Chicago Bears.^[3]^[4]
