David Jones or David R. Jones in the Open Championship[edit]
There's some confusion about which David Jones played in various Open Championships. From 1974 to 1981 it must be David Jones since David R. Jones is too young. In 1986 it seems to be David Jones since the man is a professional and David R didn't turn pro until the following year (The Majors of Golf have David R.). In 1987 both played, the pro (David) made the cut, the amateur (David R) didn't (The Majors of Golf has David R. making the cut and David Richard (amateur) missing the cut, which doesn't quite make sense). 1988 qualifier is David Jones - Irish Times has a headline "Only Walton and Jones Qualify". In 1990 "The Times" has D Jones (Longfellow Golf), an attachment associated with the Irish David Jones (The Majors of Golf has David R. in 1988 and 1990).
In summary: All are David Jones with the exception of the 1987 amateur who missed the cut who is David R. Jones. Nigej (talk) 12:25, 15 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]
