New Photo
[edit]I know someone has written here before about getting a new photo, but that was in 2007. How about a new one, with his beard, because he looks (a) much older now and (b) much better with a beard. This is not meant to be (entirely) facetious! --P123cat1 (talk) 22:07, 6 April 2014 (UTC)
I second that! He does look much better with a beard. Here is it, seven years later, and still no new photo. Can't we just acquire one from the web? --AreThree (talk) 08:57, 20 June 2021 (UTC)
Do we have a better source for the Oxford rejection thing?
[edit]You can't apply to both Oxford and Cambridge, and I'd be surprised if you could get into Cambridge to study History through Clearing, even back then. Do we have a better source than a Daily Mail article that isn't even apparently paraphrasing him? 86.164.73.169 (talk) 20:50, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
- Added reference to his autobiography; I believe he took a gap year. ajmint (talk•edits) 23:55, 6 September 2014 (UTC)

Near Liverpool?
[edit]Contrary to the source and other mentions elsewhere Mitchell's father was not born in Liverpool. His father was born in the St. Helens registration district in 1946. This district does not cover Liverpool. His father's parents, James F Mitchell and Margaret S Forbes, were married at St Ann's CE church in Rainhill in 1940. James F Mitchell, incorporated accountant, was living at 119 St. James Road, Eccleston, Prescot on the 1939 Register. Prescot, Rainhill and St. Helens are near Liverpool so it's more accurate to say near Liverpool. See Free BMD and Lancashire BMD websites for the index records for the father's birth and the grandparents' marriage and Find My Past for the 1939 Register.C3MC2 (talk) 00:40, 29 November 2017 (UTC)
- I've changed Liverpool to Merseyside as St. Helens is in Merseyside and I think it better reflects the facts and what Mitchell says about his father's background. He says Liverpool but I think he really means Merseyside, an area that includes Liverpool and those locations nearby identified with his father and grandparents ie St. Helens, the district of his father's birth, Prescot, where his father was living in 1939 and Rainhill, where his grandparents married in 1940.C3MC2 (talk) 10:40, 5 December 2017 (UTC)

User of Twitter
[edit]The article has stated for some time now that Mitchell is a user of Twitter, but a large number of people are today. Is this something that still warrants mentioning in the article? Cooltrainer Hugh (talk) 20:44, 3 October 2019 (UTC)
Info box nationality
[edit]I undid the removal of properly sourced information from the info box and twice undid further removal of this by two users who provided no explanation for this, but did give a disruptive editing warning. As I understand Wikipedias rules this is could be considered disruptive editing on their part and an example of biting the newcomer.
Please give an explanation for why you are promptly excluding properly sourced and normal content for a biographic wiki box. 82.34.180.146 (talk) 15:28, 5 February 2022 (UTC)
@Unbh and Seasider53: Please come to this talk page and discuss the issue of nationality, citing sources and policy. Try to reach consensus. -- MelanieN (talk) 05:27, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
- I've actually added the nationality field, but the IP's message above is pretty disingenuous. They weren't restoring anything, and there were other unnecessary edits bring included. As for biting the newcomer, ha! it's clearly an IP sock.Unbh (talk) 13:04, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
- Not creating an account does not make one a sockpuppet. What 'other unnessesary edits' are you referring to? I was restoring content removed in this edit: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=David_Mitchell_(comedian)&diff=1056170249. Your semi-protection request claimed vandalism, which is not accurate. 82.34.180.146 (talk) 22:28, 6 February 2022 (UTC)
- I thought you were claiming to be a newcomer? Which is it? That's a bold reversion of you, where you also needlessly change the location of Salisbury. You should have taken it to talk in November.Unbh (talk) 02:20, 7 February 2022 (UTC)
Problems with reference 2
[edit]There is some problem with reference 2 (Who’s Who 2011). It is displaying as “ {{cite book}}
: Empty citation (help): |work=ignored (help)”
but I do not have the Wikipedia editing expertise to diagnose or fix it MaryPercival (talk) 14:01, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Don't worry about it, there are 30,000 other pages with the same error. Someone will come along and fix it in due course. Nanonic (talk) 17:42, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
