Article Improvements

[edit]

Regarding the image in the article, either a "deletion review" needs to be completed to contest the speedy deletion flag, or a new image meeds to be used, if I'm understanding correctly. Also information needs to be added or improved in order to take this article out of the bot's stub class. Mschmidt44 (talk) 20:15, 7 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Assignment 5

[edit]

We need to fix the picture situation as well as add more information about not only his life but his work in schizophrenia. Sschroth (talk) 04:37, 8 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Improvements

[edit]

This page can be updated and improved by adding more references, adding sections regarding the history of David Shakow, his works (reference these as well), and maybe even his influence on the work of others. There is little information so far on this page regarding Shakow. His work on schizophrenia is minimally informative, therefore it would be very beneficial to add to this page on who Shakow was and his great contributions to the field of Psychology and more specifically in the research of schizophrenia. DIVISION OF TASKS IN GROUP:

[edit]

Hannah Nelson: I will complete the background section of Shakow & add to his works (his journals, books he wrote) section and add the references I use in the background to the references section Hannahnelson (talk) 17:45, 10 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Miranda Schmidt: I will complete the part of the contributions section on the Scientist-Practioner Model, and add those references. I will try to find a suitable image for the article as well. Also Hannah, feel free to use the obituary article reference I posted above for his life background, or else I can add to the background as well! Mschmidt44 (talk) 15:31, 14 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Sarah Schroth: I will complete the contribution section on Schizophrenia, and add those references. Sschroth (talk) 04:25, 17 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ileana Perez: Hello! My name is Ileana Perez and I am an undergraduate student. Would you mind if I join in the editing of this page? I have articles that I can add to all of the sections and I can help with the background and other things in general, such as awards he has received. I was thinking on working on fixing this page for an assignment for my History of Psychology course due in December. (Ily.2011 (talk) 22:04, 28 October 2014 (UTC))[reply]

I also saw that the sources that are listed in the current page are non-existent or non-accessible. Eliminate those? (Ily.2011 (talk) 22:48, 28 October 2014 (UTC))[reply]

Hello Ileana! I am the professor in the History of Psychology class at North Dakota State University that has started on this article. Certainly, everyone is welcome to edit Wikipedia. You should just be aware that a group of three students from my class has also chosen this article for the class project. They will be working on this page until December as well. They have listed and divided up the tasks they've chosen to improve this article. Hopefully you will be able to work around what they are doing. As long you're all communicating, should be fine. J.R. Council (talk) 18:12, 4 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you so much for responding! This is quite the coincidence! I chose the topic back in September, but since this is Wikipedia, I couldn't really claim anything from so early. I had been working on it on a Word Document in my personal computer until I saw the talk page change up with the separation of tasks. I have information typed up and I am just learning how to use Wikipedia, so hopefully your students have seen my messages on here. (I haven't quite figured out how to talk to others in talk pages yet). I will try my best to work around it! A joint collaboration of sorts! It looks like you are communicating with my students now. That's great. You should start your own user page, which has a talk section. However, the talk page for this article is the proper place to discuss additions and changes to the Shakow article. Remember to stay logged in to Wikipedia so your edits to to the article will tagged to you in the history page. Sign all of your Talk posts with 4 tildes and that will tag the post with your name and time/date. J.R. Council (talk) 17:59, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nice Start!

[edit]

You guys have done a great job on this! Time to start reading the articles you've found and adding to the article. It is so bare-bones right now that it really doesn't matter where you start. However, the better you organize your work at the early stages, the easier it will be to add on later. J.R. Council (talk) 19:31, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

One more thing - there is a nice account of Shakow's work with the scientist-practitioner model in The Affirmation of the Scientist-Practitioner: A Look Back at Boulder (American Psychologist, Feb. 2000)

by D. Baker & L. Benjamin. J.R. Council (talk) 19:37, 23 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Updates

[edit]

I have worked on the biography and the major works done by Shakow. Ileana Perez, you're more than welcome to add a section on rewards, etc. You could also add a section on the Boulder model since we are discussing mostly the schizophrenia aspect of his works. We have all listed what we are adding and you can add whatever we haven't listed as something we plan on adding. -Hannah Nelson 2001:4930:240:0:81B0:F60D:B420:DBE5 (talk) 19:23, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I have started the major contributions section, completed basic information about the Scientist-Practitioner Model, and added new references. I also plan to add to the major contribution outline, a detailed section on Shakow and the Boulder Conference specifically. Mschmidt44 (talk) 21:40, 3 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Okay! Sounds good! I can also add the scientist box that goes underneath the picture spot. I can add things if I find you have not added them. Thank you for your kindness. What a coincidence that both groups have this as a History of Psych project! Oh, also, how are we to go about sources? I already had gathered a lot of what you guys had listed as sources before you posted them on the talk page, but I am not sure if your professor would be okay with me posting the sources I have found for when I started building the page on a Word Document on my own computer. Ily.2011 (talk) 03:55, 5 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Ileana, my email is james.council@ndsu.edu. If you email me, I will send you links to tutorials and help documents that will be a big help in learning how to edit. One tip - it's okay to develop a section offline in a Word doc. However, it's best to add to the Wikipedia article gradually, rather than pasting in a big block of text. It also helps to discuss what your plans are on the article's Talk page. (This has to do with keeping the high-level Wikipedia editors happy. ;) J.R. Council (talk) 18:07, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Great! Yes, it is a coincidence! Small world. You can add new sources, or add old sources by clicking named references and click the correct one and it'll add the reference to your spot without adding references several times in the reference section. It sounds like my teacher can see what and when each specific student adds stuff so I wouldn't worry about it! If it's an issue on who's work is who's, then we can all just write on the talk page what each specific person has done. Hannahnelson (talk) 00:35, 6 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you! I added the Scientist Description box, but not with the picture since I saw that Hannah Nelson was going to fix the picture problem. Also, when I added the scientists box, I could not get it to show his date of birth... Help? I will add on information you guys don't have in your sections and new portions like his internship programs and talk about it on the talk page. Is that okay with everyone? Ily.2011 (talk) 16:31, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

That's all ok with me! Also, I never said I'd do the picture so that might have been someone else. If not, go for it! Hannahnelson (talk) 18:03, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh, I am sorry, Hannah! I misread the division of tasks. I do not know how to fix the picture nor feel comfortable going into that... :O Oh, I can also add about the award that is given out there in his name. I just have to create the citation for it and add it in in addition to adding the internship portion and adding to other paragraphs more information or detail from the sources! :) Ily.2011 (talk) 21:10, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I added the award given in his name section. I was wondering where/how did you get the information from: Milite , George. (2001). Shakow, David (1901-1981). Encyclopedia of Psychology. Retrieved July 28, 2007. I tried to look it up and I didn't find it! Ily.2011 (talk) 01:18, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oh and thank you, Dr. Council for the help! Ily.2011 (talk) 01:21, 8 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that I had requested that article from my interlibrary loan through NDSU. You could try to do that through your school library I believe. Sorry I can't be more help! I originally found the article from google scholar! Hannahnelson (talk) 18:37, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Updates from Ileana: I finally added the awards! I was working on how to cite... Hehe. Feel free to use my sources as allowed. I am working on the internship program section to see if it pans out differently from the scientist-practitioner model. I also have a few more details about what he did after his work in the WSH. Do you mind if I add that to your paragraphs? (By the way), I am formatting my source use after yours for when I add my things, but for the Cautin, 2012 citing, can I add the doi? You guys don't have it). (Oh, oh, my professor helped me fix the date error in the information box that I requested help with earlier. Just letting you all know!). Ily.2011 (talk) 04:40, 15 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Would you guys like me to link the things in the paragraphs?? Just checking! Going to upload the rest of my things soon! (My professor is revising it for me) :) Ily.2011 (talk) 03:12, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, once again! I just wanted to let you all know that I added the Internship/Training Section to the Document, I added a citation to the first sentence of the "Scientist-Practitioner Model" part and I fixed one of your sources (#8) because I used it too and you added an extra author there that is not there. I will be checking the document and this talk page for any necessary updates or any help you guys may need! I can add more stuff like sentences in between stuff and/or help with linking! My project for this page is due this week (I wrote the article on my own on my own sandbox, but am just adding to this official David Shakow page what is missing that you guys have not posted). Ily.2011 (talk) 06:23, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Use last name

[edit]

You should refer to him as Shakow, not David J.R. Council (talk) 21:09, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Feedback for Assignment 9

[edit]

General comment: You guys have done a great job developing this article. In general, just polish up the writing. It looks like you did what you said you would do in the Talk page, but if there’s anything more to add, go ahead.

See the brochure, Editing Wikipedia Articles on Psychology, 2nd page, Organizing your article/An article on a psychologist.

Here are some specific suggestions: 1. Biography Early -

  • what was Madison House? Explain this influence.
  • correct grammar and typos

Career - this section is choppy. Improve quality of writing Either delete Late Life section or add more substance. Last sentence belongs in Contributions.

2. Major contributions Schizophrenia research

  • replace “David” with Shakow.
  • Add reference for dissertation
  • Don’t capitalize schizophrenia

3. Other contributions

  • change title to Awards and Recognition

Assignment 10

[edit]

I did assignment 10 and only 1 source came from safe assign and it was from Wikipedia. Looks like we did a good job of using sources adequately! Hannahnelson (talk) 21:51, 26 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I was sort of confused when looking at the assignment 10 safe assign report. Most of it showed as coming from Wikipedia which is good, but there were a few sentences that were sourced as from "Another student's paper"... not sure if this just means Wikipedia as well like you said Hannah?
