The following comment from Johnny Clegg is written on his official website (http://inmyafricandream.free.fr/songs/s_one_man_one_vote_uk.htm)

"On May 1st 1989, while we were recording this album (Cruel, Crazy, Beautiful World), a university colleague, friend and anti-apartheid activist Dr David Webster was assasinated in Johannesburg. The brutal linatity of his death left one feeling angry frustratred and helpless. Three weeks later I wrote this song. He lives on through all the people he touched and he is deeply mourned and missed."

It seems to me that we can say the song "one man one vote" is inspired by, if not dedicated to David Webster.

Two David Websters

[edit]

The following link listed in the External links refers to a completely different David Webster:

The David Webster discussed in this Wikipedia article was an anthropologist who died in 1989. He was "was murdered by covert forces of the Apartheid state."

The David Webster discussed in the linked article about the Wouter Basson trials was an American lawyer who worked WITH covert forces of the Apartheid state, and who was alive in 2000 (as discussed in the link, which deals with the court cases of 2000.

I've therefore removed the link from the "External links" section.
