Manchester United/Sir Alex Ferguson Comments

De Gea is still an Atletico Madrid player, untill otherwise stated by the club. However, it is important to include/reference the comments made by Sir Alex Ferguson of Manchester United. These comments are not saying that De Gea to United is a done deal, nor is it implied. It is not unfounded speculation as there are direct quotes from both parties. Even if De Gea stays at Atletico, it will be important to note in his career profile that he had the opportunity to leave Atletico and the praise given by the Manchester United manager. I would be pretty reluctant to. As the BBC article says, they're just guessing at the transfer fee as officially it is undisclosed. I think it would be a good piece of info to add (and looking at the figures chances are it is true) but personally I'd wait for the actual amount to be revealed. doomgaze (talk) 23:36, 29 June 2011 (UTC)

Height

He's certainly not 6'4". In the tunnel before the Community Shield game against Man City he looked shorter than Ferdinand (6'2") and walking off the pitch after the West Brom game he looked roughly the height of Phil Jones (5'11"). Every source I have found states 6'4" but it definitely needs updating.

I agree that he doesn't appear as tall as some sources but him, but even the Manchester United website has him down as 193 cm here, which you would presume would be based on players' medical examinations.. Unfortunately wikipedia is not the place for original research, we can only go by what reliable sources say. I wouldn't assume that the heights on the club website are based on medical exams. After all, the club website says Rio is 195.5cm tall when he's actually closer to 185cm. – PeeJay 20:51, 14 August 2011 (UTC)

Typical media nonsense, building you up, then knocking you down. When he under performs you'll find out he's actually 5'10". He looks about 6'1". Haven't 'contributed' to wikipedia before but wanted to verify the height claims. I'm 186cm - a hair over 6'1 - and was lucky enough to meet a few members of the United team in January. I was surprised at the heights of a few of the players: Ferdinand was about my height - definitely not 6'3/6'4 as he's been listed; Phil Jones is probably just over 5'11 (as listed until a few months ago, now seems to be getting 6'2 listings); Welbeck isn't 6'1 - he's about the same as Jones (line up photos back this up). It was De Gea who surprised me the most though, as I always knew he wasn't 6'4 (based on photos next to other players), but in reality he's no taller than 6' flat. I was definitely taller than him. There's a picture of him next to Casillas from a pretty good angle in which he looks to be only slightly taller. Career Statistics

No, this is an issue that has been discussed ad infinitum at WT:FOOTY. The response has always been the same; we shouldn't change it to clean sheets due to inconsistency in the record-keeping throughout the history of the game. – PeeJay 16:18, 4 April 2015 (UTC)

I'm sorry, but that is not good evidence. You could just as easily cherry-pick two articles, one in each language, that use the opposite capitalization. There are multiple examples of that already linked from the article, in fact. Reverting as you have is edit-warring and can get you sanctioned. Please discuss this more fully here and provide some evidence about Spanish language name capitalization. At this point, you have three editors (myself, Izno, and 86.173.162.109 (talk · contribs · WHOIS)) who disagree with you. Please seek consensus. Eggishorn (talk) (contrib) 17:44, 14 June 2017 (UTC)
If anything, it is you guys who should be seeking consensus to change longstanding text within an article. There is no evidence here that it should be lower case either. Edit warring

These types of edits is starting to get tedious with the removal of the phrase "regarded by many as". The latest batch of edits are what seems to be edit warring (and possible sock puppetry) - everyone should know that there are lots of professional goalkeepers, hence there should be at least one "best goalkeeper" in the whole world of football. The article has been re-edited to cite De Gea as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, using references which are nine years old. He is no longer considered in this bracket, not even being one of the three Spanish goalkeepers brought to the 2022 FIFA World Cup. I would argue that the Spain squad doesn’t reflect how good he is, just the manager’s preferences. We all know that De Gea’s biggest weakness is playing with the ball at his feet, and Spain’s main style of play revolves around that. Surely you’re not arguing that Simon, Raya or Sanchez are even remotely close to his level either…
He’s got through the bad patch and has been incredible ever since the start of 2022 for United, and that deserves to be reflected. As Manuel Neuer showed, one bad season doesn’t mean he’s not still one of the best.

My main point is that if Wikipedia citations are vastly outdated, they should not be described in present tense.
