This article is generally well-written (its prose is much better than many articles on Chinese topics that I come across), but I have some concerns about

  1. The shortness and brevity of the article (if we cannot find decent biographical material on Yu, I think that raises serious WP:Notability issues)
  2. The lack of images (certainly other images relating to the movement could be found)
  3. The strong reliance of the article almost entirely on two newspaper articles (the Sunday Times article is paywalled and inaccessible to non-subscribers, so I cannot check it) and newspaper articles in general.

Because I judge this article to be "a long way away from" the above criteria (especially #1) I am failing this article's attempt at GA status. I encourage the original editor(s) to spend some time searching for more detailed (and possibly scholarly) treatments of Yu to add more robustness to the article, and then to renominate it at some future date.  White Whirlwind  咨  23:07, 8 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the review. I'll work on incorporating your suggestions. A couple things to note:
  • I previously had a bit more biographical detail about Yu Zhou, and the piece was once written more as a biography. Another editor opted to change the subject to "death of Yu Zhou" instead, and deleted some of the biographical information in the process. I'll look at restoring some of it.
  • As for notability, I take your point, though there is substantial coverage (at least of the event of his death, if not of his person) in a number of major print publications and human rights reports. This amounts to more than trivial mentions, so I don't think there would be a WP:Notability problem. But I can try to vary up the use of different references some more.
  • For reference, a copy of the Sunday Times article is republished on this site.[1]
  • It may be possible to have a photo under fair use. And you're right that other photos related to the movement could be use as well.TheBlueCanoe 02:09, 9 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
