Why was Jean Stapleton not here?[edit]

Seems to me that the actress who was Edith Bunker deserves some recognition. Can this be fixed? Please? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.22.169.183 (talk) 02:49, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

May 2013 deaths have been moved. Her entry is now at Deaths in May 2013#31. — Wyliepedia 08:10, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Why was Jean Stapleton not in the headlines?[edit]

Jean Stapleton __DESERVES__ a spot on the front page. PERIOD.

FIX IT please. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Chizotz (talkcontribs)

Jean Stapleton did appear on the main page. Paul Erik (talk)(contribs) 04:16, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

...edited out worthless profanities - kids read this talk page too --68.231.15.56 (talk) 04:18, 9 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Don't edit other editors comments for the reason of profanity, Wikipedia is not censored and it's not appreciated that you alter it. It's better to warn an editor to remain civil during a discussion rather than to remove their comments in whole. Regards, — Moe Epsilon 15:11, 10 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I think you need to read that policy a little further Moe. "Because anyone can edit an article and most changes made are displayed immediately, inappropriate material may appear before it can be removed. Content which is obviously inappropriate (such as an irrelevant link to a shock site, or clear vandalism) is usually removed quickly. Content that is judged to violate Wikipedia's biographies of living persons policy, or that violates other Wikipedia policies (especially neutral point of view) or the laws of the U.S. state of Virginia where Wikipedia's main servers are hosted, will also be removed." Also under WP:Offensive Material-" Wikipedia's encyclopedic mission encompasses the inclusion of material that may offend. Wikipedia is not censored. However, words and images that can be considered offensive should not be included unless they are treated in an encyclopedic manner. Material that would be considered vulgar or obscene by typical Wikipedia readers[nb 1] should be used if and only if its omission would cause the article to be less informative, relevant, or accurate, and no equally suitable alternative is available." Both are clearly violated by this intentional act on civility and discourse and both were warranted for immediate removal. This was the #3 viewed page last year on Wiki and as such has a high visibility.Sunnydoo (talk) 09:27, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looking back, the material he removed is fine that he removed, however my concern is that he is merely censoring words to censor words considered vulger to them, which is what we don't do. If an editor says fuck, it doesn't need to be removed "for the children". Regards, — Moe Epsilon 11:15, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Here is the original message, which I, at one point removed as a global personal attack. It's not the verbiage used, it's the attacking. This page is about editing the article, not assigning colorful names to the editors. The guidelines above clearly state "no personal attacks". In my opinion, the post should've been removed entirely, which I attempted (see below). There was nothing constructive whatsoever about the original post, which as you see was entirely presumptive. — Wyliepedia 11:32, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Which like I said, I agree with that now after reviewing it. However, I don't agree with removing stray profanities for the sake of younger editors seeing it, which is what the IP implied they were doing. Regards, — Moe Epsilon 12:01, 11 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Overkill in removing personal attack[edit]

This edit removed WAY too much material. Most of it should be restored. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 08:20, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I put the derogatory comments back in, but we have a right to remove it, I believe, especially when the person was in the wrong to begin with. Language like that is uncalled for. The rest was May 2013 discussion which was moved to its page. — Wyliepedia 08:34, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The last thread deserved removal, the sooner the better. But the earlier stuff (5 separate threads) was perfectly OK, and should not have been moved under the same edit summary. That's a very confusing message. -- Jack of Oz [Talk] 08:46, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I was in the process of moving them, which is customary with the new monthly pages, when I saw the attack. In a rush, I only listed the attack removal summary and should've added the move as well. Hence, my second revision note. Feel free to revert and remove and whatever else you see fit. — Wyliepedia 09:02, 7 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Jiroemon Kimura"[edit]

Jiroemon Kimura, 116, Japanese supercentenarian, verified longest-lived man, natural causes. Hm. That makes it sound like he had been verified as the oldest man ever; he was actually the oldest man whose age has ever been officially verified - quite a different thing. Any suggestions of a better wording? Grutness...wha? 11:37, 12 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Kakiemon Sakaida, 78, Japanese potter, cancer.[3] is a trick.[edit]

Click the link and see.Paradise coyote (talk) 15:33, 15 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Its not a trick. The Japanese have a cultural phenomenon where specially talented people involved in trades are given a named trade title in their tradition. There are various generations of Kubuki actors, painters, sword makers and in this case a potter who have the same name once per generation. The guy who died was the 14th incarnation of the original. By Japanese law, they all share the same name, so it is his legal name. His son as he has been trained by the father will take over the title and become the 15th Kakiemon Sakaida. You could go in and try to separate and make separate articles for each one, but why bother? Just link it to the franchise and move on. At least the last 3 Kakiemon Sakaida's have all received the equivalent of "living treasure" distinctions and I suspect there are more if not all in the line from the artistic quality of the porcelain produced.
