Don Cox[edit]

Maybe Donald Cox, ex Black Panther Party Field Marshall could be added: http://www.itsabouttimebpp.com/Memorials/htm/In_Memory_Of_Exiled_Fallen_Black_Panther_Party_Field_Marshall_Donald_DC_Cox.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.116.190.53 (talk) 12:31, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I see no reliable independent media references to confirm notability, only blogs and self-published sources. WWGB (talk) 12:51, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Wes Leonard[edit]

I wonder if the HS basketball player who died after scoring the winning point should be listed. This is very new, but the story is out there, [1] among others.(mercurywoodrose)76.245.46.57 (talk) 02:42, 5 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know why, but the entry for Leonard Lomell is being deleted almost as many times as the one for Uga, and often by vandals with history. Can someone please remove posting privileges from the offenders? Scarecrow47 (talk) 18:24, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've added warnings to the two IPs that seemed the most persistent in removing the info. If they continue I will block them for disruptive editing. --Jezebel'sPonyobons mots 18:42, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I cannot find any reliable source for her death, and the only one given here has retracted their post. She's had a notable death hoax in the past, so this wouldn't be anything new. Eseress (talk) 05:32, 12 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Johnnie Baston[edit]

Hello. Why was the link for Johnnie Baston removed in the March 10 deaths? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 16:57, 13 March 2011 (UTC))[reply]

Because list entries are linked to their own article, not piped to some generic article like Capital punishment in Ohio#List of individuals executed since 1976 as you did. WWGB (talk) 21:14, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Fair enough. Then, what about the March 5 entry of Kim Hill? That link is piped to Fred Hill#Personal life. What's the distinction? Thanks. (Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 21:53, 13 March 2011 (UTC))[reply]
Now fixed. Thanks, WWGB (talk) 22:00, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Michael Gough - star of Doctor Who?[edit]

I think that a minority of the fans of the TV programme Doctor Who have done serious damage to many actors' articles on Wikipedia. Is Michael Gough most famous for a role in four episodes of Doctor Who in 1966? Was this one of the pinnacles of his career and what people still remember him for? Outside of serious Doctor Who fans, I don't think so. However this is what you would think from the Deaths in 2011 page. Of course this is referenced by an obituary column from the BBC website, most likely written by a journalist who has researched Michael Gough from his Wikipedia article. I am a Doctor Who fan and have watched the programme for over thirty years. But I am getting mightily fed up with seeing actors' articles where their fleeting appearance in Doctor Who, sometimes even just in a comedy sketch or audio book, is treated in the article like one of their life's great achievements. rrsmac (talk) 1.30am GMT 18 March 2011.

Agreed, and I've removed it. Appearances in four ancient episodes of a TV series do not trump appearances in The Go-Between, The Boys from Brazil, Out of Africa etc etc. Entries on this page should take into account the full career of the subject, and not rely on an obituary which in this case, is bound to place undue importance on a BBC series, given that it's a BBC obituary. Bretonbanquet (talk) 02:37, 18 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Page is locked so can someone please add Kym Bonython, aged 90, Australian entrepreneur and arts identity to Saturday? News source here: http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2011/03/20/3168700.htm —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.138.16.69 (talk) 03:14, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

wasn't he killed yesterday? or is he not notable enough for a mention? I'm not sure... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.21.7.176 (talk) 17:36, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the entry was removed due to lack of a reliable source. WWGB (talk) 21:24, 22 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Is this notable?[edit]

A Nigerian comedian named CD John died in a car crash: http://www.thenetng.com/2011/03/24/breaking-news-fast-rising-comedian-cd-john-is-dead/ B-Machine (talk) 14:10, 24 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Can somebody answer my question? Is this guy notable? B-Machine (talk) 13:29, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I doubt it. He does not appear to meet the criteria at WP:ENTERTAINER. WWGB (talk) 13:35, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Elizabeth Taylor[edit]

I realize that she has the title "Dame", and it's proper to put it in the main article, as it is relevant information, and anybody seeing it there has already found who they are looking for. Having it in the death index could be confusing to somebody searching for Ms. Taylor who isn't using a text-search function. It would be better, in my opinion, to leave it out of the index itself. Tom Barrister 23:03, 24 March 2011 (UTC)

I really do not get why the title Dame keeps getting removed and restored in the Elizabeth Taylor's entry. Of course the title is relevant and is included in the article. However, whenever a titled individual dies, their title has traditionally been included, i.e. Msgr, Bishop, Sir, Dame, Prince, Princess, Count, etc. If the rules have been changed so be it but that does not appear to be the case. When other Dames (DBEs) have passed on (i.e. Beryl Bainbridge, Patricia Bergquist, etc.) died their titles were included. Let's have some clarification from an admin. Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 03:07, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Your argument includes clergy, who are commonly referred to by their titles. The others weren't high-profile actors/actresses who were more commonly known by their screen names. Nor are all titled celebrities listed by their titles. For example, check the Wikipedia articles for Laurence Oliver. Titling everybody makes about as much sense as prefixing everybody's name with "Mr." "Mrs.", "Ms.", etc. If the title must be included in the death index, it should be at the end of the name, as it is, for example, with Agatha Christie.Tom Barrister 10:36, 25 March 2011 (UTC)

In my opinion, listings on Recent deaths should match the article name. Her article title is Elizabeth Taylor, hence that should be her list name. We never include postnominal initials (eg DBE) in this list. WWGB (talk) 11:02, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
At the risk of arguing against myself, we did not have this debate over the listing for Dame Beryl Bainbridge [2] or Dame Joan Sutherland [3]. In both cases, Dame was included in the listing. WWGB (talk) 11:17, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
That was kinda my point. To paraphrase the Bard: "Consistency is all"! Rms125a@hotmail.com (talk) 23:37, 25 March 2011 (UTC)\[reply]
After getting haughty with me at "imposing (my) will", it seems as though you've imposed yours on the "Dame" title. I guess you have more power than me here, so there isn't much that can be done.Tom Barrister 04:06, 31 March 2011 (UTC)

I guess those who are the most persistent will get their way. I find it absurd that she's referred to in the death notice as "Dame". I can't find a single newspaper headline outside of the United Kingdom that reads "Dame Elizabeth Taylor" etc. She was known to 99% of the world outside of the United Kingdom as "Elizabeth Taylor" or possibly "Liz Taylor". However, since the power-that-is (ms125a@hotmail.com) seems to have made it a career to keep the "Dame" title in, that's fine with me. But it still isn't correct, in my opinion. Tom Barrister 04:00, 31 March 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tombarrister (talkcontribs)

[4], [5], [6], [7]. Newspaper headlines tend to be more short and concise when referring to people and places (e.g. US/The Queen..), but death notices should be more formal. And we cannot disregard the fact that she was made a Dame and she did not renounce it. If she did not do that, why should we act against her own will? --218.103.214.26 (talk) 04:15, 9 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

José Argüelles[edit]

The José Argüelles BLP was updated 1½+ days, ago stating he had died, without a reference. I came here seeking one and find that he is not listed. This source jose-arguelles-dead-2012-prophet-ascended-on-kin-89-red-spectral-moon is the best I could find. Point is of course, is he really dead? - 220.101 talk\Contribs 19:33, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Best to wait for a more reputable source to report. I'll revert the changes to the article. Connormah (talk) 03:16, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, I'd like to hear others' opinions on this. 03:18, 26 March 2011 (UTC)
Here's the foundation website where it is being reported [8] Connormah (talk) 03:20, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks Connormah. I have added him to "Deaths.." and have updated his article with the ref. Everything else seemed rather 'bloggy', It appears no newspaper has covered the mans death. Makes me wonder if he was in fact a "world-renowned author, artist, and educator"! Probably American, but his article doent make that clear. Thanks again! - 220.101 talk\Contribs 04:56, 26 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notable to be added? B-Machine (talk) 18:37, 10 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
