Schirra's Death Date[edit]

On this page there's a link to Fox News stating astronaut Wally Schirra's death as Wednesday evening (May 2), but CNN says he died Thursday [1]. I'm sure there will be more information published soon...Drawingnearisgood 19:48, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Most sources now cite Thursday morning. WWGB 23:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

May 3, 2007 - Rose Tombe, Sudanese celebrity, asphyxiation.[edit]

This links to Rose the married goat. Shouldn't this only be a list of human deaths? FranksValli 17:36, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

notable animal deaths are included on a case-by-case basis, but i tend to agree that this one isn't worth it as a faddy internet meme that'd barely pass a 10-month test, let alone 10 years. removed. tomasz. 17:58, 11 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Bogus Sean Connery entry[edit]

This entry must certainly be an error. Ha, ha!--Drboisclair 15:02, 18 May 2007 (UTC) Also, someone put up that Tom Cruise died - just idiots trying to vandalize Wikipedia. ThunderPower 15:54, 20 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Horses aren't people[edit]

I believe the horse (Arwon, 33, New Zealand-born racehorse, longest surviving Melbourne Cup winner, euthanasia.) Should be removed. 76.215.181.41 00:29, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

We've had this debate many times before, but I honestly don't know if consensus was ever reached as to whether we should either exclude all non-humans on principle, or to allow notable animals to be included. If there is a confirmed position on this issue, I think it would be best to make some mention of it in the wording at the head of the list, so that everyone knows what the policy is, whatever it is. "We never reached consensus" - perhaps because not everyone expressed their opinion. So let me express mine - I believe that if it had a heart and brain... it lived... and therefore if notable should be listed here. That would include people, animals (race horses, dogs (Lassie)), mammals (Shamu the whale?) etc. It should not include things that live without a brain or heart.. like trees, plants etc. But the key to it all has to be notability. Tom M.
If that is the sole criterion, then Arwon is a definite contender. But maybe it's not the only consideration. JackofOz 12:46, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Famous horses are by precedent e.g. Desert Orchid. And rightly so. Many horses are more famous than 90% the people listed. 88888 12:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Absolutely. My only concern is that the current intention of the list seems to be to list dead humans only. To quote from the page header:
  • "Names under each date are listed in alphabetical order by family name. Only persons meeting the Wikipedia notability guidelines are listed and with a reference to a reliable source. A typical entry appears in the following sequence: Name, age, country of citizenship and reason for notability, established cause of death, reference."
Maybe it would be folly to adhere too rigidly to these rules, and I wouldn't argue that way. However, if we want to welcome the inclusion of notable non-humans, we need to make this clear in the opening preamble to the list. If not, we should state explicitly that this list if for humans only, so that nobody is in any doubt as to where the threshold is. JackofOz 13:09, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
