Badreddine's death date.

[edit]

AP reports "It didn’t say when the explosion happened, and Hezbollah’s media office said they also had no information about the timing of the attack. On Tuesday night, Hezbollah denied reports that Israel’s air force targeted a Hezbollah convoy on the Lebanon-Syria border."

Rusted AutoParts claims The Guardian is clear about the cause and date, and shared a link which isn't clear at all.

Until we know, it should remain at the date announced. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:21, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

BBC: Hezbollah said Badreddine was killed on 10 May when "a strong explosion targeted one of our centres near the Damascus International Airport". The group said it was investigating the nature of the blast. Its the second to last paragraph. Rusted AutoParts 04:30, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sketchy claim, since other sources translate the statement, without any date. I've left it there, with this source, but it still isn't a known airstrike. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:35, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Can't speak to al Masdar's reliability or sources, but this breaking news puts the purported airstrike at around midnight on the 13th. InedibleHulk (talk) 04:50, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Original research, of course, but someone dying on Tuesday and being buried on Friday seems quite slow for an Islamic funeral, especially for someone dying near their comrades. Beirut is about an hour's drive. InedibleHulk (talk) 05:46, 14 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

2016 deaths missing sources

[edit]

A few 2016 deaths that have escaped my source-finding skills:

@Star Garnet: Why not find the months and add them yourself, if it means so much to you? — Wyliepedia 08:27, 22 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Meh. I'll probably do it later today. This was just a way to put off a few 20 page papers. I haven't really kept track of the stylistic changes to these pages since I was a primary editor of them seven-ish years ago, so I figured having all in one place would make bulk editing easier in case there was something I wasn't aware of. Joe Fleishaker

[edit]

A user seems fairly adamant about inserting the production company and his appearances on Letterman as opposed to the feature roles he appeared in. The Letterman bit isn't supported by IMDB (not using as a source) and the source we're using to note his passing makes a one sentence mention to his Letterman work. I say we use the film roles that were in the entry beforehand. Rusted AutoParts 14:39, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

People who are familiar with Troma's output are likely to know what Fleishaker's contributions there were, without needing specific titles highlighted. Conversely, there are many readers who don't follow Troma, but are likely to more immediately recognize Fleishaker for his work on Letterman's show. It is more effective to cover them both in his summary. And regarding IMDb, please refer to WP:RS/IMDB. Farolif (talk) 14:52, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
He made a few appearances on Letterman 30 years ago. And not everyone reading will be familiar with the production company. Maybe the films, but not the company itself. So its better to highlight films. And i've read that guideline, im simply stating there's no way of verifying how many appearances he made on Letterman. Rusted AutoParts 14:57, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That would be quite a feat if he appeared on "Late Show with David Letterman" 30 years ago, because the show didn't debut until 1993! And while the cited source "only" mentions his Letterman work once (read: there's no dispute that he was involved with the show), you can easily find dozens of articles about Fleishaker's passing which include this same aspect of his career. By this repetition of such a detail across multiple sources, it is apparent that it is significant. Attempting to minimize his Letterman work by questioning how many appearances or how long ago it happened seems to be grasping at straws. Farolif (talk) 15:19, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Directly from the Hollywood Reporter: The actor also had a recurring walk-on role in the 1980s on David Letterman's Late Night show at NBC, sometimes playing the comic's father or son. You do know Letterman had another show that ran from 1982-93, right? And i'm not "minimizing" anything, I'm trying to determine which appearances in film and TV are most notable to mention in the article, which i'm guessing to be some Trouma credits. Rusted AutoParts 15:24, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]
I am aware of the Hollywood Reporter's version. I can only find a couple other articles which make the same claim, and even they appear to derive from the HR piece. Most other sources specify it was the CBS show (NY Daily News, for example). Still doesn't sufficiently downplay his work with Letterman & Co to rule it out as a credit which a considerable amount of WP readers would identify him from.
And if you're truly "guessing" about the notability of individual Troma credits in the first place, then that explains a lot about the dispute here... Farolif (talk) 15:42, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're valuing NYDN over The Hollywood Reporter? THR clearly states his show at NBC, whilst NYDN only states a show name, that easily leads to confusion. And i'm not guessing anything. I'm basing it off what features prominently in the article. Rusted AutoParts 15:49, 26 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Notice I indicated NYDN as a single example? THR claims it was Late Night, while most other sources specify the name of Letterman's CBS show (Late Show with...). The only confusion seems to be on the part of the THR writer who was assigned to Fleishaker's obit.
What features prominently in all the articles is Fleishaker's work with Troma. There are plenty more people who are familiar with multiple titles from the company and would know right away what Fleishaker's involvement there was, than those who have only seen a handful of Troma works & could specifically recall his role(s) in them. Non-FB source for Angelo D'Agostino

[edit]

A user just created a page for figure skater Angelo D'Agostino that cites a FB post from a friend claiming he died recently. Can anybody find an actual source? Star Garnet (talk) 19:36, 28 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi. Someone's gone to great lengths to add a plethora of new (redlink) deceased persons to this month, mainly with foreign language Wikipedia articles as back-up under the "ill" method; however, technically, any editor could now follow behind and promptly remove them, as English Wikipedia redlinks are removable after the month is archived, assuming an English Wikipedia article for the subject is not created immediately. Can anyone else not see the point of all this work, on an archived month? And should there be a rule forbidding addition of redlinks of any kind to an archived month? Thanks. Ref (chew)(do) 06:31, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Problem is, they are still within the one month since death. They are being deleted as the month expires (there are a lot of them). The addition seems like an absolute waste of time to me. WWGB (talk) 07:23, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Adding the "no new redlinks to an archived month" would be a valid override to the "one month since death" rule, as we should assume that those entered were put in before the archiving. It seems to me. Just needs some kind of wider consensus. Ref (chew)(do) 12:50, 12 June 2016 (UTC)[reply]
