User:IHaveAMastersDegree has made these changes:

(1) Change re Saunders's husband: "a lawyer, author, and senior fellow in bioethics at the Discovery Institute", to add "often described as a "creationist think tank".[1]" My objection is: the new bit is not about Saunders or even about her husband (he says he works in another department).

(2) Change from "Saunders is also a vocal global warming skeptic ..." to "Saunders puts herself in the "agnostic/skeptic global-warming camp,"[7] but wrote a column poking fun at researchers with "feet of clay" for getting stranded in ice and describing scientists as 'climate changers.' [8] She says that "...global warming believers renamed the phenomenon 'climate change' - probably because of pesky details like unusually cold weather undercutting the warming argument." This claim is contradicted by evidence that the phrasing change was actually conceived by a Republican strategist.[9]" My objection is: selecting one bit from a columnist's writings and then finding evidence against it is okay -- as a debating point. But Wikipedia would require a relevant due-weight non-synthesized reliably-sourced paragraph that reports Saunder's loss of a major debate -- which didn't happen here.

I believe that IHaveAMastersDegree's changes should be reverted. Who believes that they should not be reverted? Peter Gulutzan (talk) 16:20, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for spelling out your objections.
(1) I would argue that the mission and world view of the organization reflects his own world view. If what her husband does is not relevant to an article about her, then no mention should be made of his job at all.
(2) I would argue that my changes in this area are not an all-or-nothing proposition. If the last sentence I added (about the false allegation she made) is not appropriate, there no reason to revert the first sentences which replaced SYNTH with an actual self-description and quotes intended to convey the definition of that description. IHaveAMastersDegree (talk) 17:04, 9 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
(1) Agree that no mention should be made of her husband's job: the name is linked if anyone's interested. Since the source makes no mention of Saunders, it's not suitable for this article: another source is needed to confirm that he's her husband.
(2) The source in which she depicts herself as "in the agnostic/skeptic global-warming camp" is ok for that description, we could do with a secondary source providing mainstream context with specific mention of her contrarian views. However, finding something she's said and another source which contradicts it without mentioning her is WP:SYN so that part has to go. In my opinion. . dave souza, talk 18:12, 10 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
All right, I didn't revert, but removed the husband's occupation and the wp:syn sentences. Yes, there should be a source that Smith is a husband. I added one where Smith says Saunders is his wife.Peter Gulutzan (talk) 23:41, 13 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Education? Early life?

[edit]

Did Debra Saunders ever go to high school? Did she go to college? Any post-college schooling? Was she born somewhere or did she spring, fully-grown, from nothing by a process of spontaneous generation? IF she was born somewhere or went to high school or college or anywhere else, why doesn't the article mention any of this information? Someone has seriously dropped the ball in writing this particular article. HandsomeMrToad (talk) 02:35, 24 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
