These two articles seem to describe the same concept. If this is true, they should be merged. If this is not true, they should at least be linked to eachother through hatnotes. Neelix (talk) 18:07, 21 August 2008 (UTC)
- The article aren't exactly compatible. This one claims that the decans originated from the "Chaldaeans" i.e. general Mesopotamians from Babylon, the other one claims that the decans originated from the ancient Egypt. I believe the other one is true, and that someone have filled this one with speculative assumptions or untrue allegations from some astrologer source out there. MUL.APIN gives at most 33 constellations in the northern (?) path of Enlil, but the Dendera zodiac gives 37 constellations or star stations (See [1]). The Egyptian calendar contained 36 week of 10 days each and exactly 5 intercalary days each year. Said: Rursus (☻) 15:36, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
- This article is duplicate of the better Decans article. Someone is trying to connect the Decans material, describing Egyptian decans to later Renaissance magic material, such as Henry Cornelius Agrippa. Yes it should be merged. Truth is that Egyptian star observers (priests and their assistants?) started with 36 decans, and that Babylonian magi or astrologers reduced some 15-17 zodiacal constellations to 12 in the early antiquity (the hellenic period). The superposition of 36 decans upon 12 zodiacal signs is undated, but might have occurred either in the antiquity or more probably in about the 18th century, when egyptian hieroglyphs were beginning to become decoded. Nothing was actually merged to Decans on 6 September 2011. Only the merge template was removed. It's not clear to me that Decan (astrology) is a content fork, so I've restored it. Either actually merge the content, or put this up for deletion. – wbm1058 (talk) 16:28, 1 March 2017 (UTC)
