Not moved. Clear absence of consensus. bd2412 T 03:21, 6 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Defence Housing Authority, KarachiDefence, Karachi – Defence Housing Authority is not the name of the town, rather the governing authority. The neighbourhood name is referred to simply as "Defence", hence it should be moved to Defence, Karachi while this article should reflect the Defence Housing Authority as a governing authority. PAKHIGHWAY (talk) 15:12, 24 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment - @PAKHIGHWAY: Welcome back. Let me explain to you what a article move is. A page move simply changes the title from 'A' → 'B', while the content remains same and it also keeps the history intact in one place. Now your proposal is good but since we already have Defence Housing Authority, therefore an article on the authority of each individual city isn't req. & they won't sustain because of notability. Though the media has often reported erroneously to the locality as 'Defence Housing Authority', but more recently as, Defence DAWN, ET or DHA Geo, ET.
    • IMO: (i) No need for each city's authority article. (ii) move to → DHA, Karachi or Defence, Karachi, while keeping one of these as a redirect. (iii) a line (in italic) at the top saying, "This article is about DHA neighborhood, for the authority see: Defence Housing Authority.
PS: Same goes for LHR & ISL. Also pls. don't get into trouble again. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 03:27, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Mfarazbaig. Thanks for clearing it up. So just to be clear, I can go ahead with the REDIRECT from Defence Housing Authority, Karachi > Defence, Karachi and the same for Lahore and Islamabad articles as well? Also, I should add the top line as you mentioned. And yes, I plan not to get in trouble again. :D --PAKHIGHWAY (talk) 15:09, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@PAKHIGHWAY: Don't redirect. Make a move instead. Generally, there's a 'Move' option available on top right beside the search box, when you click on 'More'. In this case, click on 'direct move' at the end of the box above. Give it a week or so to see if there are other opinions before going ahead. - Mfarazbaig (talk) 16:40, 25 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose - this article is about the DHA, and all sources refer to it as the DHA. Google Maps also calls it "DHA Phase 6" etc. No evidence that reliable sources call it "Defence".  — Amakuru (talk) 21:20, 2 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Amakuru. Whatever I found, refers it as DHA. Almost every city has an "off the record" nickname. Moving them, or this particular page would not be logical. —usernamekiran(talk) 21:53, 3 October 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Defence Housing Authority, KarachiDefence, Karachi – For consistency with Defence, Lahore and Defence, Islamabad-Rawalpindi. The neighborhood's name is actually "Defence", not "Defence Housing Authority". The page was moved by PAKHIGHWAY anyway despite the above RM, and the move has been reverted by Anthony Appleyard as requested by Anmolbhat at WP:RM/TR. Otherwise, move to DHA, Karachi and the other 2 articles to DHA, Lahore and DHA, Islamabad-Rawalpindi respectively. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 01:23, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

  • A disambiguator is needed on this article's name, if it is moved to merely "Defence". To people who do not know Karachi, "Defence" means "the act of defending" or "the people who defend" rather than an area of housing. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 09:13, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Comment - I don't understand this fascination with people not understanding a very simple concept. Defence Housing Authority is the name of the GOVERNING AUTHORITY. If you need a bloody "disambiguator" then call it "Defence, Karachi (locality)" or "Defence, Karachi (neighbourhood)". Also I live in Pakistan, I think I'm very well aware of what our neighbourhoods are called. This makes NO sense at all! By your logic, people in London live in London Metropolitan Authority. This is ridiculous! --PAKHIGHWAY (talk) 15:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose I am sorry but you are only referring to PAKHIGHWAY's opinion here. The two pages that you have named Defence, Lahore, and  Defence, Islamabad-Rawalpindi, first one was a redirect turned into article by PAKHIGHWAY and second one was created by him, and he has been unilaterally moving this page often. His request was supported by no one, except a paid editing sock. Like @Amakuru and Usernamekiran: also noted, this article is about DHA, and that is how it is referred. No reason to change the title. Anmolbhat (talk) 14:43, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
    • The reason is perfectly clear. Defence Housing Authority is the name of the governing authority. The name of the locality is simply Defence. What kind of neighbourhood calls itself "Defence Housing Authority". Have you ever heard of this name in your life? Put aside your personal vendetta and use your brain please. --PAKHIGHWAY (talk) 15:18, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per my comment in the above RM. It doesn't seem like anything has changed since then, and no new evidence that the common name is not DHA.  — Amakuru (talk) 16:10, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Amakuru: is it possible to include Defence, Lahore and Defence, Islamabad-Rawalpindi in this discussion?usernamekiran(talk) 18:23, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
@Usernamekiran: I reverted the moves there already because they were done by cut-and-paste, and with no discussion. Thanks  — Amakuru (talk) 15:37, 3 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per my comment in the above RM. It doesn't seem like anything has changed since then, and no new evidence that the common name is not DHA. Also, for consistency with other articles. —usernamekiran(talk) 18:30, 2 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Muhajir Domination[edit]

DHA is a muhajir society as stated clearly in https://www.researchgate.net/publication/333677138_Micro_Thesis_The_Muhajir_Identity_and_Effect_of_Ethnic_Discrimination_on_the_Urban_Development_of_Karachi

  • The Muhajirs had faced social desertification and discrimination from the locals since the days of partition, and hence after developing societies of their own they in turn decertified the natives.
  • The muhajirs have now made their own community, and have restricted the rights to that community to the locals that had previously discriminated against them and suppressed their right to the city.
  • These communities now are self-sufficient and independent of the previous township that they were related to. Such towns and areas include Gulshan-e-Iqbal Town, Defence Housing Authority, Gulistan-e-Jauhar and many more.

It clearly says that DHA is a Muhajir area FlameAlpha (talk) 14:52, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

This source speaks of Muhajirs exclusively living in self sufficient communities (i.e not kachi abadis as mentioned in this source). It further gives examples of SOME of these "self-sufficient" areas. It doesn't mean other ethnicities don't live here or are a minority/majority.

Furthermore, as per the 2017 census (or any previous census), we only have data for Karachi Central which is "Muhajir dominated" and other districts like Karachi East, West, Korangi, Keamari and Malir. Separate data for Karachi Cantonments is never published in the census (probably because it is not exclusively a civilian area). Look at ANY article on Karachi demography and you will never find DHA/Clifton demographics, so how is it fair to declare a Muhajir presence in these areas if data for the rest doesn't even exist? Uzek (talk) 15:34, 11 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It claims that muhajirs have restricted other ethnicities from living in the afore mentioned areas.
Ok maybe muhajirs are not majority but DHA is considered a muhajir community, it says so in the article.
Btw this is not about census it is about a credible research paper published by a professor of National University of Sciences & Technology. FlameAlpha (talk) 05:04, 12 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
