Bits that Stephen Stohn has said about season 8

Maybe at some point these pieces of information can be included in the article. They are from the degrassi.tv Forum, which requires registration to access. For anyone who doesn't know, when production of season three began a user on the D:TNG website with the alias "ExecProducer" began a thread called "Shooting Season 3", revealing production details, guest actors, scheduling information and DVD release details. He revealed himself to be Stephen Stohn in one post, although it was not until the release of Degrassi: Generations - The Official 411 in 2005, that it was confirmed the poster was indeed Stohn.

Over the last few months he has made the following comments.

"We're still working on the opening... you will find that there are subtle (and not so subtle) homages to the past--think Season 5 but modernized!! The theme will definitely have a vocal track, and we are still trying to figure out whether to go with a male vocal (possibly with a female background) or a female vocal (possibly with a male background)... we've even had one of the cast members singing part of the theme.. looking forward to making the decisions and putting it all together!" —— This may be interesting because The N has a video on The Click showing Gym Class Heroes performing a new version of the theme, with lyrics.

"Here's an up-to-date list of episodes this year (all subject to change of course!). For logistical reasons we are shooting a number of episodes out of order, so I've put the list below in the actual order we will shoot them in, but with the correct episode number as they will be broadcast.

"For those who have asked, no 808/809 are not Valentine's Day episodes, although they will be Valentine's Day-like (i.e. the Degrassi time frame for them is not February, but the subject matter will be particularly appropriate to be broadcast in February!!)

So the question becomes, should we include the references on the article at this point? It should be noted that they have already been accepted in the many Featured x candidate for the Degrassi articles, but they have always been used with other sources. Why is "807 Money For Nothing" listed after "808 & 809 Lost in Love Parts 1 & 2"? They've aired in the right order in Canada, haven't they aired that way in the U.S.?

Show All of Season 8 On Episode List

I'm sure I am not alone on this, but I would like to see the whole episode list under Season 8, rather than wait for the next episode's information to be shown after it has aired. Episode 8 of Season 8 has aired on CTV in Canada on November 30th, 2008. The episode is titled Lost In Love Part One. This episode was not aired on The N in the US yet. 19:17, 1 December 2008 (UTC)

Good luck with that. The episode page was given full protection and since then has not been updated. Addition of Bruce and Chantay

I readded Chantay and Bruce to the article as i saw that Angelcaboodle took them off. I think it is fair to put them in as they were part of previous series and are credited in the theme song so The edit should stay in place. Personally, I don't agree with Angel's statement that Chantay should be taken off as she did not have as big a role as Anya's. She states that Chantay never was a "regular" before. What does that matter? Firstly, The sentence begins with, "Certain Recurring characters who were promoted to regular status... " (paraphrasing) Secondly, Chantay's been on the show for a long while and Bruce was featured last series, and now they are mentioned in the theme song. (A big surprise for me. Was not expecting that). If there is such a debate about this subject, why not give it its own sentence in the same paragraph. They are regulars now and it should be noted. If you had problems with my edit, you should have spoke to me directly on my Talk page and not stating your claim here. To be honest, I have yet to watch the new season (I've been too busy with university), so I did't actually know if she's in the opening credits in Season 8. However, in past seasons, Chante was simply a background recurring character with no significant input to the plot, and I had wrongly assumed her character would continue in that pattern. If she has been added to the opening credits as you claim, then fine: add it. But once again, you should have brought this to my attention on my Talk page, rather than here where the chance of me noticing your complaint is slimmer. Full protection

The page has just been indef-protected, which I think is a good thing. It might be better to wait until the season finishes broadcasting, or it may be that it can be semi-protected a few weeks down the line.

Anyway, I just wanted to say that although I am an admin, I obviously have a vested interest in this article and will not abuse my admin tools to edit the page. As per WP:PPOL (specifically WP:PREFER: "Administrators should not protect or unprotect a page to further their own position in a content dispute.") Okay fine, I'm requesting that someone, anyone add the last two episodes that have aired in Canada. I can't say as to whether they've aired in the States or not. Lost in Love Part 1, aired November 30th and Part 2 on December 7th. Another thing, what's with the British style for all dates now?

No it's not! I'm Canadian and I've NEVER ever followed that format. I was taught the American format for dates in school (80s & 90s). We haven't followed that in years. Who thought that? I hate to tell you but Canadians copy Americans for years with a lot of things. Robin, that you by any chance? date format says Canada can use either mm/dd/yyyy or dd/mm/yyyy, and the WP:MOS says it can too. Use {{editrequest}} to request an admin make the changes. Matthewedwards (talk • contribs • email) 10:07, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Why change it now? For one, I've never used that format and two, there are tons of other Canadian shows that use the American format. I don't get why it's been changed now. No it's not "Robin".

Changing the article to British English not supported

I'm going to start out by saying I'm a new editor, so if I've done something wrong or misunderstood policy, please let me know and assume good faith, as I have with this article.

On July 15th, 2010, 117Avenue changed this article from American English to British English spelling/grammar. Previously, this article (and all others in the Degrassi universe) were American English. This change was made without discussion and without consensus. While I understand that these articles are about a Canadian show, set in Canada, I feel there should have been a discussion before the changes were made. Here are my reasons:

1) According to WP:Retain, "When an article has evolved sufficiently for it to be clear which variety it employs, the whole article should continue to conform to that variety, unless there are reasons for changing it based on strong national ties to the topic." This article is about a season that aired two years ago and from then until the 15th, it was in American English. To change it suddenly deters from WP:Retain because there was no given reason to change the grammar.

2) Even if it was agreed upon to change to British English, there is one instance it is not supposed to be changed. Under WP:ENGVAR and WP:BrE it does say that there should be consistancy within an article, so I applaud 117Avenue for making the entire article match, but they changed a quote within the article to match as well, which is frowned upon within 'Consistency Within Articles' - "quotations (retain the original variety of the quotation even if it differs from that of the article; though the precise styling of punctuation marks such as dashes, ellipses, apostrophes, and quotation marks should be made consistent with the surrounding article)".

The quotation I'm talking about is "Calgary Herald and National Post writer Michael Morrison said Paula Brancati "has become my favourite Canadian actress", admiring her ability to play two different characters on two different series – Jane Vaugn on Degrassi: The Next Generation and Jenny on Being Erica – with an age difference of about thirteen years". Now, the link provided in the reference section no longer takes you to the article (and being a new editor, I'm not sure the proper way to fix it), but when I went to the blog that was referenced, I was able to find the original article, with a new address of http://mikesbloggityblog.com/2009/03/a-real-canadian-talent.html. In that article, he uses the word "favorite", not "favourite", so even if it is agreed to change the grammar of this article, the quote should still read, "has become my favorite Canadian actress".

That said, I wonder if the source is even proper, because it is a blog post. The article says he is a Calgary Herald and National Post writer (two sources I'm not familiar with their reliability, because I'm from America), but from what I understand about allowing blogs, it usually has to be a part of the newssource and adhere to the same editing/review procedures as an actual article would. From the little bit I scanned from the article, it seems no more reliable than many other blogs that have been deemed unreliable in the past in the Degrassi-universe.

3) Finally, and this is my biggest problem with the change, is the changing of the word 'another' to 'anouther'. I've searched all of wikipedia to see if this word even exsists. I checked google, where the few articles that popped up were riddled with spelling mistakes that cannot be traced back to cultural/grammar mistakes. I looked through British dictionaries and other sources, including newspaper articles, and cannot find any usage of this word. I'm not sure it even exsists. The word does not even come up in the British English or Canadian English pages on Wikipedia. I would like to see a reference to where it is used, in academic or journalistic sources, because otherwise I really doubt it is a word that is used (at least in the majority of Canada or Britain). I'm trying to assume good faith and not assume that this change (which has been reverted just to be changed back again) was done to insert a new word, but can someone, anyone, give me a place where it is used, because I cannot seem to find a single source for it.

Why do you think that all Degrassi pages used to be American English? The standard for all Degrassi pages are to use Canadian English, because it is a Canadian show, a lot of the time American English gets in because there is a lot of fans in the U.S. The quote was a verbal quote from a Canadian, so it can be assumed it was in Canadian English. 117Avenue (talk) 19:08, 27 July 2010 (UTC)

It's not really a big deal to me if it is in American English or Canadian English, it just seemed like everything changed suddenly, especially when looking at the original article creations, and according to wiki policy you are supposed to leave it in the original english chosen by the creator. But it really isn't a big deal, I was just curious why everything was changed.

As for the quote - just because it is from a Canadian does not mean it is in Canadian English. The quote was from his website/blog, and if you go to the link I posted, you can see it is spelled favorite, not favourite. Just because an editor feels it should be spelled in Canadian English does not mean they can change the quote. According to the Manual of Style, section "consistency within articles", a quote should not be changed just because it does not match the rest of the article. We can either remove the quote or leave it the way the quoted individual wrote it, but we cannot change the quote just to match the rest of the style of writing.
