Lies, d*mned lies and statistics[edit]

Um, just a point of curiosity here. This is a town with a population of 25. What possible value can be attached to a statement such as For every 100 females there were 108.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.9 males ? Surely those who understand statistics can work that out for themselves, and for those who don't, it's just absurd.
