Why does someone keep removing the link to Greek-Americans? It is within Wiki policy to indicate ethnic American heritage. He is a Greek-American. This is a fact that the article has every right to indicate. Same as Jewish-American, Japanese-American, Italian-American, Irish-American, et al.. It's time to take this matter further and I will be submitting IP addresses for complaint to Wiki staff.--Nikoz78 (talk) 15:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I notice that "All Hallow's Wraith" has removed the "Greek-American" link stating that I need to consult the WP:MOSBIO "for an idea of what an intro sentence is supposed to like." First of all, these are guidelines, not rules. Second of all you yourself should read it since in the Opening Pagagraph guidelines, number 3 states that it is appropriate to indicate a subjects "Nationality & ethnicity." Greek-Americans are notable, considering that they are the wealthiest and highest educated ethnic group in the United States, according to official federal government data. You want to make a big deal out of nothing, okay. But you will loose. Why do you even care? Your bias is obvious. Jews suffer this kind of discrimination, as do Greeks. We will not tolerate your bigotry.--Nikoz78 (talk) 15:58, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Is there any reason to deviate from the guideline here? What WP:MOSBIO says is "Ethnicity or sexuality should not generally be emphasized in the opening unless it is relevant to the subject's notability". Demetri Martin isn't notable for being Greek-American - he's notable for his work as comedian and actor. I have nothing against mentionining his background in the appropriate place - i.e. "early life", for example. All Hallow's Wraith (talk) 22:51, 31 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

He is Greek, not Jewish

[edit]

The facts are extremely clear on this. Check the many references. He has stated in numerous interviews that both his parents were/are Greek-Americans, that his father was a Greek Orthodox Priest, that he was an Alter Boy in church, that his family ran a Greek diner, etc. Sorry but he is not Jewish!--Nikoz78 (talk) 14:45, 21 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If I

[edit]

The series talks about his early life and if someone wrote it up it would sum it up nicely. Youtube link: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=fjlkfl9i-lA&feature=related —Preceding unsigned comment added by Moshkin (talkcontribs) 22:01, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio

[edit]

I just removed a pargraph on Demetri's background that was copied and pasted from this article. If someone wants to rewrite info from that article into this wiki article, that would be cool. - Maximusveritas 09:43, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2006

[edit]

Updated with details of Martin's 2006 show at the Fringe, and changed "Edinburgh Fringe" to "Edinburgh Festival Fringe" (both correct, but proper title as corrected). --82.41.74.129 21:04, 30 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Conan appearance 10/10/06

[edit]

Deleted this, as there's nothing special about this appearance - Martin has guested at least three times before. Earbox 03:53, 14 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Comedy Central Innovation

[edit]

Well, stand-up and prop comedy both have wikipedia articles which leads to me believe that the division does exist. But if you can't find a source saying that Martin pulled off the hattrick as described, then please remove the paragraph.Amo 14:17, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll cite it to his specials. He clearly uses all three in both of his Comedy Central specials. The core of his act in the special is traditional stand-up, but he also plays various instruments to accompany certain jokes, and he uses props such as sketches to act as the punchlines for several jokes in one of his bits. As a side note, to repeat what another editor said in an edit summary a while ago, you shouldn't have to cite what is self-evident. Thanks, Dan Slotman 16:04, 21 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Stolen jokes

[edit]

Someone recently added the following allegation to this article. If it is true, it must be cited, because accusations of stealing someone else's material are very serious in stand-up circles. Until a reliable citation is produced, this should be excluded from the article. It also didn't belong in the career section. Demetri stole his "My computer beat me in chess, but was no match for me in kickboxing" joke from Emo Philips. Thanks, Dan Slotman 16:38, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He's stolen a few jokes from Mitch Hedburg. Watching a few performances by both makes it pretty clear. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.32.42.41 (talk) 05:35, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

He has a similar delivery to Mitch Hedberg, but pretty different content. I'm pretty familiar with both of their acts, and there's no theft that I've seen.68.22.243.145 (talk) 00:01, 14 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

divorced????

[edit]

is there another source that says he is divorced? the one sited doesnt seem to be very clear on that matter —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.170.168.40 (talkcontribs) He says that at the end of his special "If I" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.246.209.130 (talk) 20:21, 15 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About Will

[edit]

Not sure if this is just an error in wiki or not, but the link for Will goes to a completely different movie title that gives no writing credit to Demetri. Are these two films different or just a revamped and rewritten version of Demetri's idea? Either way I think there needs to be a change made to reflect it... --67.242.59.179 (talk) 23:58, 20 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Please quit deleting the information about Martin being a prop comic. He uses props in many of his skits. While he is not explicitly a prop comedian, he does use prop comedy as part of his comedy routine. FreddyPickle (talk) 23:09, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Since when? I've only seen him use drawings and musical instruments, but those aren't really props. Plus, Demetri has never once labelled himself as a prop comic. Carrot Top on the other hand IS definitely a prop comic. And a very s****y one at that, too. - Jasonbres (talk) 23:36, 26 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Formatting error at the bottom

Errors in references

[edit]

There are two refs referring to his palindromic poem submitted at Yale university (5 and 6). 5 appears to be broken and 6 requests a library card number for access. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jippa99 (talkcontribs) 18:06, 7 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Allergies

[edit]

I don’t think his allergies are relevant information to be included in the personal information. It may be true, but not worthy of being in a wiki article about him.

I didn’t remove it because I’m not up on wiki styles and customs. 136.56.129.132 (talk) 04:18, 11 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
