Wiki syntax errors

There appear to be some wiki syntax errors in the 'Nepali Overseas' section. I'm not entirely sure what was intended, so I didn't edit it yet. User:Dressegu —Preceding undated comment added 15:59, 13 December 2010 (UTC).

Language statistics

Two important points are glazed over in this article that would be ideal to spell out with hard stats, if available. What percentage of the country speaks Nepali as a second language and what percentage speaks English as the same? The former is also relevant to the Nepalese language article and the global lingua franca is equally relevant, especially on the En wiki. MrZaiustalk 22:25, 6 February 2008 (UTC)

Well, no concrete data is available as to what percentage of the population uses either Nepali or English as their second language. What is however known is that, close to 57% percent of the population uses Nepali as their first language (2001 national census). The figure may be as high as 90% if population that uses Nepali as the second language is also considered. English is a compulsorily taught language in most public as well as government schools from grade 1-10, so a large chunk of the population also understands English (although accurate estimates are hard to find). I also know this for a fact if only the literate population is considered, then Nepal has the highest percentage of population that understands English in South Asia - a testimony of the fact that English is compulsory in nearly all high schools of Nepal.VividTara (talk) 16:53, 10 March 2009 (UTC)
If 57% speak Nepali as a first language, I'd guesstimate the rest of the population is about equally divided between those who have a working command of Nepali as a second and those who don't. A non-native speaker who is educated in the national school system will have to learn Nepali. Also anyone who gets around the country, particularly in the "middle hills", will need to acquire some Nepali. Otherwise if you didn't go to school and stay in the restricted area where your mother tongue is spoken -- both applying to many women -- you can get by without knowing Nepali. Similarly if you stay in the Terai you can get by in Hindi or a related more local language such as Awadhi, Bhojpuri or Maithili. Or if you stay in the high mountain/trans-himalayan region you can get by in Tibetan and its local dialects.
English proficiency is hard to pin down. Most students who are still in school after 4th grade will be exposed to it, but a substantial portion don't really become proficient enough to hold a simple conversation. --LADave (talk) 10:38, 29 September 2009 (UTC)

Behavior sentence - removed

"Behivevior Nepalese are mostly helpful and they mostly are aggressive to help each other.They have a helpful community mostly like Asian people."

How many caste in Nepal?

Gap between statistics

Interesting that the total population is 30.14 million and the regions with most significant populations have 30,494,504 and 12,100,000 people --87.7.45.160 (talk) 20:24, 3 May 2015 (UTC)

Datas have been misquoted in the Demographic Statistics section

I am directly quoting a section of the paragraph from this official pdf document( Nepal Population and Housing Census 2011(http://unstats.un.org/unsd/demographic/sources/census/wphc/Nepal/Nepal-Census-2011-Vol1.pdf)). Caste/Ethnicity: There are 126 caste/ethnic groups reported in the census 2011. Chhetri is the largest caste/ethnic groups having 16.6% (4,398,053) of the total population followed by Brahman-Hill (12.2% ; 3,226,903), Magar (7.1% ; 1,887,733), Tharu (6.6% ; 1,737,470), Tamang (5.8% ; 1,539,830), Newar (5% ; 1,321,933), Kami (4.8% ; 1,258,554), Musalman (4.4% ; 1,164,255), Yadav (4% ; 1,054,458) and Rai (2.3% ; 620,004).

But it has been misrepresented in Demographic Statistics Section. Please kindly review the official source and make necessary corrections.

Potential Improvements for this article

Add more background and supporting information to the world factobook statistics, like why and how these statistics have come about, and what it means for the future of Nepal. Connect the religion statistics, like the percentages of Hindu, Buddhism, etc., to information of demographic regions of Nepal, and other demographic measurements that would help provide an explanation and a better understanding of the religious diversity in the country. Elaborate on why Nepal's population growth has been steadily rising, back it up with more relevant demographic measurements and statistics, and discuss the implications for the future of Nepal's population.

Ideas for Updates to Religion Section of this Article

Currently, Hinduism is the majority religion in Nepal. It is common for many Hindus in the country to also worship Buddhist and sometimes Christian dieties simultaneously with Hindu traditions. The notion of religion in Nepal is more fluid than other countries, particularly Western countries.[1]

There is a general ideal held by the Nepalese people that there is an omnipotent, transcendental "moral order" that is sacred to Hinduism. This ideal exsists along with the constant presence of chaos and disorder in the material world. [2]

Kathmandu Valley is home to the Newars, a major ethnic group in Nepal. The city Bhaktapur is located inside of Kathmandu Valley. Bhaktapur was once an independent Hindu Kingdom.[3] The perimeter of Kathmandu Valley is lined with shrines devoted to Hindu goddesses, whose purpose is to protect the city from chaotic events. The areas outside of the city are perceived to always possess some form of wild or disordered nature, so the Nepalese people inside of the city lines regularly worship the Hindu gods through public ceremonies.[4] The Nepali people build their social networks through their religious celebrations, which are a central part to the whole of communities within the country.[5]

Peer Review Edits

Overall, the edits made have improved the article from what I can tell. I think it flows better and has all the sources it needs. As far as I can tell, grammar and punctuation seem to be handled well and the format of the article follows this positively. The only things I have to point out are as follows:

-under population growth it says the section is empty, it's probably just a formatting issue that you can quickly delete

-the first table under vital statistics is missing some data and I would recommend adding these numbers in with sources to back them up
