In Papua New Guinean media the term Papuan is generally reserved for the inhabitants of the former British colony, which is not identically with the ethnic term used here.
Ethnic groupings
I'm not happy with the 'ethnic groupings' listed in the article. Regards the 'Major ethnic groupings': 'Melanesian' is not an ethnic group; there are no Micronesians or Polynesians indigenous to PNG; and 'Negrito' is not an ethnic group, but rather a term for the small, very dark, peoples found in various parts of south-east Asia and the western Pacific.
The list of 'Minor ethnic groupings' lists 'Papuans' and 'Wopkaimin'. I don't think 'Papuans' is an ethnic group (though this may depend on how you want to define the word 'ethnic').
There are hundreds of groups that could be listed as 'minor ethnic groupings' so it might be best to scratch that category and just list major groups. Some that could perhaps be listed (off the top of my head) might be: Ok, Enga, Motu, Tolai, Kiwai, Arapesh. Any additions? Dougg 04:05, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

"Life expectancy at birth"
